music help: My singing voice is HORRIBLE, yet I am taking voice lessons with - Help.com

My singing voice is HORRIBLE, yet I am taking voice lessons with a professional teacher and everybody else is as good as an opera singer…

and now there’s the recital, and I have to sing in front of all the other students! Well, I have been practicing everyday, but my middle voice is just as small and hoarse as it can be, my higher notes sound like screaming. In short, I’m just such a JOKE in this group, and I have no idea why my teacher took me as a student. I mean, I sing like someone who has never been trained and probably worse-much worse! I’m not even being humble here. She said I have potential, but it’s already been a while and I haven’t seen much improvement. I work so hard, and sometimes I just start crying in the middle of practice. This recital is killing my self respect and confidence, I mean, I can almost feel a nervous breakdown coming. What shall I do??!!Any experienced singer out there? I love music and singing so much, but maybe I’m just not made for it and it’s better to stop taking lessons…

Well people have been known to do things for money. I am sure she is not giving you lessons for free… does everyone else think you are horrible too or do they compliment you? If it was me and I found it that painful and felt I was not improving at all i would probably find another musical outlet. You can always take piano lessons or any other instrument you can get your hands on. Go to the recital and then listen to the feedback before you decide. People will let you know if you are really bad.
