How does a 15 year old girl that is morbidly obese loss weight and keep it off?

i have no advice just a question that i really want an answer to. i dont look like as how much i weigh but looks dont matter to my i just want to be healthy and live a long life. I’m 5′5″ and i weigh 238 it’s the heaviest that i’ve ever been. i struggled trying to lose weight but trying to manage all the homework, school, and social life is hard enough. i jump rope and walk on the tread mill but i done do it enough to get any results. i wake up so early i barely have time to eat any thing. i tried eating toast and some fruit it only worked for a couple of days then i would have a ton of homework the night before and stay up late so i’d wake up late and have to rush before i’d miss my bus. between having to study for tests and doing projects and just regular home work i just cant do it myself. i feel like i’ve tried almost everything. i’d like to call myself and optimistic person and hope there is some that is healthy safe and will help my get o a healthy weight. well i guess that’s my story what else can i say oh! my name ashley!

You’ve got to want more than anything. Anything.
It can be done.

The first thing you should do before beating yourself up is go to a doctor and get a complete physical to rule out physical causes for your obesity.

Starving yourself is a bad idea. Some things that worked for me:
1) Eat constantly, but eat the rigght things. Try eating celery, or apples, or some type of fruit whenever you get hungry. This will keep your tummy feeling full, and it will help to speed up your metabolism so that your body continues to burn energy. Binge eating (few large meals a day, and eating until your “full”) will do the opposite. It causes your body to store energy (fat) for later use.

2) Excercise. Even if it’s just a little. Try to do 20 minutes a day, every day. Walk to the store instaed of driving, etc.

3) Eliminate carbs from your diet. Do not eat starchy or fatty foods such as pasta, potatoes, BEEF, bread, or sugar.

4) Try to eat lean, healthy foods like fish, chicken (not fried), brown rice, whole wheat breads, etc.

5) Losing weight isn’t about dieting. It is a life change process. You must change your eating habits, excercise habits, sleep habits (get lots of it). Once you committ to these changes, stay with it. Resist the urge to fall back into your old habits.

6) Buy a good bathroom scale. One that shows body fat percentage. Preferably one with a memory.Set goals,(3 pounds a week or whatever works for you) and weigh your self every couple of days, and reward yourself by doing something like buy yourself a gift when you reach a goal.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

There are three key factors to happiness and health in life.

1) Dance Dance Revolution - I’m in my mid twenties and can’t get enough of this game. I don’t have a weight problem, but I know 3 people whom dropped over hundred pounds just playing this game. It’s a blast, it will make you want work out. If you already have a gaming console in your house, you can get the game and mat for about $70, otherwise, pick up a used PS2. (make sure you get the thin system, the larger older ones mostly have faulty drives)

2) Clementine Oranges - The most delicious food you can find, but only available during the winter. They’re actually just starting to go out of season though, so if you pick up a bad batch, don’t let it turn you off to them. You have to buy them in 5 lb. trays, but every grocery store (in Lawrence, KS at least) has them. They taste better than any candy you can find, are seedless, and peel easily. The best part though? It’s better for you to sit down and eat 10 oranges than to eat none. I regularly eat an entire 5 lb. tray in a single day. As an added bonus, you don’t get sick!

3) Avoid Fast Food - The stuff is really really really bad for you. I feel terrible after I eat it every time. I get dumbfounded every time I see that lunch time line around McDonald’s.

Do take it seriously though. You’re 15, your health is the most important thing you have. You’ll have far more energy to devote to school, friends, and homework after you drop the weight. I would make it the priority. Hell, atleast then you can justify playing ddr instead of doing homework, right ;P

YESS. Recite the following to yourself while you’re walking each day. “I am
Young,
Energetic,
Smart and
Sexy.”
Keep reciting it over and over. It will block out the other stuff like, I’m too fat, they don’t like me because I’m fat, these clothes look bad on me, I wish I looked like her, etc. etc.

Try it and see if it works.

Hi Ashley. I can relate to you very much. I am also 5′5″ and a year and a half ago I weighed 235 pounds. I had been overweight my whole life and after years of pushing myself trying to lose weight I finally started to. I hated drinking water but could tolerate ice cold. So, I bought myself a thermal cup and filled it. I started to carry it around with me everywhere. Sipping it constantly. I eventually loved it and crave it all the time. I also walked. Not very much but my motivation was a 20 minute walk to and from work everyday. Within the first month I dropped over 20 pounds. The key to eating is portion size. You can eat anything as long as its not a lot. Even try seperating portions into small sandwich bags to make it easier to grab. Also eating every three to four hours helps keep your metabolism going. Though I’m not exactly where I want to be, I’ve lost over 50 pounds. It’s so hard to start. I completely understand and I’m here for you. I wish you the very best of luck!

I was obese as a child. When I turned 13, I started eating smaller portions, and snacking on healthier foods. I also walk about half an hour everyday and run every other day, on top of playing hockey 2-3 times a week. I don’t do these activities to loose weight, I do them to have fun and enjoy life(burning calories is just a bonus). It feels AWESOME to excersize!! I still eat junk food almost eveyday(okay everyday) but I try to control how much of it I consume. Now I’m 15, 5′2 and weigh 116 lbs. Remember, set goals for yourself! Another thing to try: when you want to eat, go for a walk or a run instead. It will keep you from binge eating. I know with studying how it is hard to eat healthy and get exersize but if you balance studying with focusing on weight loss, you’ll soon have a well-rounded life.

Hey!I am also 5′6″ and 15.I know everyone is giving you advice but I just wanted to say that I was once in your situation.I tried different dieting programs (weight watchers and slim fast) but I couldn’t keep the weight off.I finally made the decision a few months ago to do something about it and stick with it. I excersized and controlled my portion size. Ya Ya I know you have heard that before but it really does work. So by using my own diet plan I have lost over 50 lbs and I am still loosing!I went from 216 to 169, I went from a size 18 to a size 13.So maybe try your own weight loss program and see how it works, it worked for me!Good Luck and don’t give up.
