Internet help: hi i am south african and cant get my playstation 3 internet - Help.com

hi i am south african and cant get my playstation 3 internet working its my first time using net on my ps3 just by the way…

anyway im using an ethernet cable connected from laptop to ps3 and i go over to the network settings(on ps3) and have done everythin on the custom wired option and everything goes through however it says ip address obtained my internet connection has failed i dont know what to do i need help please anybody.
