Question for the internet-savvy.
My friend is trying to apply for USNA. We live several thousand miles from there, but he is still allowed to apply. The first problem we came across was that the website wouldn’t load. This was easily handled with a proxy. However, when it came to getting to the actual application page, it returns a 503 error. Is this a problem on our end, or theirs? Does it work if you, the reader, tries to open it?

where it says “Click here to start the Application”.

Your end. It worked for me.

Darn… any ideas how to make it work? :(
When you get the error message does it give you any details/options? I know when I get an error message on my computer (on the internet) it’ll give me the option to try to resolve it. Do you have that option or anything like that?
Worked for me…
What browser are you using?
Switch to firefox?
Enable javascript?
Server not found
Firefox can’t find the server at candidateinformation.usna.edu.
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Except the URL is right, and I *can* load other pages. :/

OK, well I don’t really know. You might try again, it could’ve been a temp problem that has resolved itself since you posted this. If not, the poster above you may have some insight that I don’t.
Javascript is enabled. With a proxy IP, it gives me that message. With a proxy website, it returns an error 503 - service unavailable.
Ok… You prolly need to wait till the server comes back online… or have someone save the form as a pdf and then link it back to you…
My site will go off line in my area, while people in other areas, countries are still able to get to it…
Don’t sweat it…
But if someone else somewhere else can get to it, then the server isn’t offline, right?
Why would their computers work any better than ours? IP address is one of the problems. >_>
There are different servers in different parts of the country… a site can go off-line for one area, while working fine in another. No biggie.
If you continue to have a prob, I can put a couple pages up on one my sites for long enough that you can get the info you need….
I just tried making a pdf out of the pages, but the software acted up… need to remove and re-install…
Dunno how much the different servers going offline affects how well this particular site works with a proxy…

Here… give these a try.

well, your’s doesn’t work, but it does work for everyone else, so this points to the issue being with your PC.
move PC would seem an easy fix.
Were you able to do anything with the pages I put up?
They should at least show if your computer was able to load the pages….I don’t know if you could send the information….
the pages still call the navy site for info: IE; the links open the navy page, i assume the navy data base would still be connected to the pages… Not sure I want to keep those pages on my site though…
SO if you’d let me know something…
Both my PC and his don’t work, though.
Stone: Awesome. Is that all he’ll need? Because I can open it and fill it out. Would it submit to the right place and such? There are two ‘Submit’ buttons; are they identical?
I don’t know.
Try and see…
If the navy site is down in your area, it might not do any good to try to submit to their data base.
The print button doesn’t work, you can print by holding down the cntrl & print keys.

cool, didn’t read your post throughly enough - all the best with it.
I don’t think it works… thanks for trying, stone. You can take it off your site now.

We did learn that the pages would load…
The navy site should be back up in your area in a few hours…
I took the pages down…. Didn’t want the Navy coming after me for copyright issues!
