Thought help: So today I found out my 41 year old mother has scoliosis and rheumatoid arthritis. - Help.com

So today I found out my 41 year old mother has scoliosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

I don’t know how severe it is and I thought only children and teenagers got scoliosis so I’m kind of confused. I was looking up scoliosis and is degenerative scoliosis the most likely one she has? She was very upset and I’m not sure I understand the severity of the situation because I’m not quite sure what either are. I was talking to my mom and I was very calm, but once she left I started to panic…is she going to be paralyzed? or die? I don’t know, if anyone knows anything about scoliosis or rheumatoid arthritis please help!

She had been having back problems for about 5 years and this doctor did a lot of tests and told her on the phone about the results, though she doesn’t have an appointment until later…don’t remember when she said. This doctor is really good and came from a great hospital, but moved to where I live. I guess I should get more information, but I just can’t believe the doctor didn’t give anymore information. My mom asked if she would be paralyzed and the doctor said “not yet” what the heck is that supposed to mean?
