Introducing the new Help.com

Our mission in building Help.com is to build an online space for both people who need advice and for people who have expertise or experiences to share. Relying on search engines to research solutions is great, but it’s even better to get advice from another human being who’s already gone through what you’re going through and found a solution. Help.com exists to make this possible. And as a regular site user you could just as easily ask for help with a question one minute, and then find yourself writing a reply that solves somebody else’s dilemma the next.
That said, Help.com is still a work in progress. We’re constantly fine tuning things and trying to improve how advice is requested and shared. In fact, we launched a major revamp of the website the last week of July. So let’s introduce everyone to some major new features of the Beta.2 version of Help.com!
1 - Anonymous Posts
It is now possible to ask the wider community for an opinion without revealing who you are. We added this feature once it became obvious that users wanted the ability to ask legitimate questions that are maybe also personal or embarrassing. One caution though: anonymous posts only exist for 24 hours and then get automatically deleted. Only posts “claimed” by somebody willing to put their name next to it can exist without an expiration date.
2 - Minimal Registration Requirements
It is now substantially easier for people to ask, or post, questions. We no longer require a registration or login. If you want to post a question for the community to answer, the only thing you need to provide is an email address - and that email address is required only because it allows us to notify you when any replies to your question are posted to the website. (One thing that remains the same is that your email address still won’t ever be sold or traded to any other organization.)
3 - New Notification Emails
Anyone who wants to officially register as a Help.com user benefits from a new process of tracking questions and responses that interest you. You can now receive an email once-a-day that indicates all the replies to questions you’ve written and updates to posts you’ve replied to. Starting this tracking is easy, too. Look at any question post and you’ll see a button labeled “Alert Me to Replies”. It’s located under the questioner’s avatar image at the upper left-side of a page. Clicking that button starts the tracking process. The advantage here is that you don’t need to visit Help.com repeatedly just to see if anything new has happened with a question. You can just wait for the email notification.
4 - New Profile Page and Admin Tools
People who officially register as Help.com community members can control their account with a new profile page. This is where you can make yourself stand out as a member of the community. The profile page lets you:
• Select an avatar image to visually represent you. You can either upload your own image, or search the massive Webshots.com photo database for one.
• Write a public profile that describes who you are and where you are from.
• Turn on/off the delivery of email notifications.
• Track your posting activity on Help.com.
• Track the number of Followers who are tracking your posts.
• Link and jump to any of the posts you’ve written.
Accessing the profile page is done by clicking the “Profile” link located at the top of any Help.com webpage. Help.com doesn’t use passwords to protect your account, so if you want to make any changes to your profile the only way to reach this Account Administration page is by clicking a secure login link. This link is in every email we send you, but you can always request a new one by clicking the “request a new account link” located in the green box at the top of the profile page.
So how’s the site doing since we introduced the Beta.2 version of Help.com? Well, you should tell us. We’re always open to ideas for improvements, so don’t be shy! Due to user feedback we’re already considering a number of additional features. Like possibly including advice from subject matter experts, or maybe introducing some chat room features. The changes are not stopping with Help.com version Beta.2. So write a reply to this editorial post and let us know about the things you currently like or don’t like.

I’m not too sure. We haven’t heard any problems from users who have Internet Explorer. Have you tried clearing your browsers cache?
