When my husband got out of the military last year, he had trouble finding a full-time permanent job. I was pregnant with our second daughter at the time and could not find anyone willing to hire me. The money my husband was making working at temp. jobs was not enough to cover ur basic expenses and we were forced to use credit cards to cover basic bills and groceries. He has now found a fairly good job as a heavy equipment mechanic and I am now working two jobs along with going to college fulltime, working toward a degree in English/Secondary Ed. We have had to take out student loans to cover the costs of education and daycare for our 3 year old and 14 month old daughters. I am worrying that my loan payments will be more than we can afford on the salaries of a mechanic and a teacher. We no longer use credit cards now that we have steady income, but are stuck with the debt we incurred last year. We are only 25 years old and are two of the hardest working people you will ever meet, but it seems that we will never be able to dig ourselves out of this hole and make any progress toward paying off the debt or owning our own home. If anyone can help, it would be more than greatly appreciated. We will pay it forward both in our service to the community and hopefully to others in need when we are able. Thank you for reading this and if there is anyhting you can spare, our address is 99 East 2nd Street Apt. A23 Moorestown NJ 08057, thank you again

I’ll send you some brownies if you want! Do you want magic or non-magic? ;)

Well, making fun of you two is mostlikely not the best way to go - BUT - here is the thing: Millions, gazillions of people are in the same situation you are…most people are in worse debt and are in danger of losing their homes or cannot feed their children.

My question is, if you don’t have the money, then why in god’s name are you going to school at this time and get yourself even more into debt.
Why did you get pregnant, although you knew how bad your situation was and that it would be difficult.

All this is your fault, no matter how you want to look at it and why would anybody else pay for it. Especially since there are tons of people that need help more than you do.

I wish you good luck and hopefully this trouble will make you mature faster.

Well, we all went or are going through hard times financially. I am not going to lecture you, all I can offer is a little advise, as I have been there with lost jobs, no income, husband out of work, and with 4 little ones still needing clothes and shoes and food. At the time we used our credit cards and got into so much debt that I didn’t think we were ever gonna get out of it. Then one day I called the credit card companies and spoke to supervisor and got a pay off for them explaining everything that was going on. Fortunately for me I did get a compasionate supervisor that looked into what she could do and low and behold was given pay off’s for the cards. You can give that a try since it can’t hurt to ask. Next I looked for help with the heat and whatever else I could possibly get for my family. Unfortunately for us we did loose our house before we could sell it. Today (20 yrs later) we are renting, the kids are grown, no more credit cards (they only get you into trouble), and husband has good business going.
All I can say is give it a try and get on the phone it can’t hurt all they can tell you is no. Good luck to you and then make the best of it.

My husband and I are in a similar situation, you don’t have to worry about your student loans until you graduate and you can file for an economic hardship deferrment if you can’t afford to pay it back right away, it will let you have i think up to a year of no payments, also try talking to a credit place that puts all of your debt into one big debt with low payments, im not sure what its called tho. And like the previous post said, try calling your credit card companies and getting your rates lowered and such. I wish we had financial stability to help you guys out, but at the moment, we’re trying to find a way to feed ourselves as well. Also, try contacting your local Veteran Affairs office, see what sort of programs they have to offer. Its always worth a shot :(
