Constantly feel like I need to take a deep breath.

It’s so annoying! I have the constant feeling like I need to take a deep breath, and a lot of the times I breathe deeply it has no effect. Sometimes I can yawn and this satisfies the feeling, but 2 or 3 seconds later it comes back again.

It’s so annoying, and distracting! I’m having to focus so much on trying to breathe deeply enough to get rid of this feeling.

Has anyone ever had this, or does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this better? I feel like I’m about to lose my mind!

Yes, I have had this before. You should definitely check this with your doctor. It could be stress related (hyperventilation), could be heart related, could be lung related, could be allergy related. Mine started four years ago and even though it’s a little better, I still have it.. mine was mainly stress related. I have been to many doctors no one can quite figure out why..

focus on relaxing your breathing instead of on taking big breaths.
Also keep good posture & make sure you’re breathing w/ your diaprhagm and not your chest, and with your mouth closed if you can.

and yeah, ditto on the doctor bit.

Do you get find yourself wanting to sleep halfway through a day? If so I had the same problem, and eventually overcame it by taking iron supliment pills. The iron in your blood is what carries the oxygen, so if there isn’t enough oxygen reading important parts of your body, it will leave you fatigued.

I can get really tired at times (mostly during really boring lectures!) but i’ve been swimming more lately and it’s making me a lot more awake during the day. i don’t really feel fatigued as such… is the breathing thing a result of fatigue?

Well ya can go to a doc, yeah, but the iron pills wont hurt you if you don’t need em. You will know if you don’t need them because excess iron is pooped out. Makes your stools turn green :p

I’m in the UK, we have the NHS :) Although that doesn’t sound too expensive, I’ll have to check it out!

That’s interesting.. did the vitamin help you completely? Because I have had this problem for a long time and sometimes I think I am malnourished.

Yeah it had a noticible effect. I take one every day and it basically makes it so I don’t get tired randomly throughout the day. With the exception of things that would make you tired that your not use to. But I use to get tired around 2 to 5 pm and would have to take an hour nap. I took the iron and it pretty much eliminated any need for sleeping more than 6 to 8 hours per day.

Interesting, thanks. Yea, I did a blood test. I was low on D and borderline iron, so it will probably help. I am gonna start taking my vitamins and minerals.

Sleeping and tiredness aside, did it help any breathing problems?

No, it had no effect on any breathing for me, but I wasn’t having a problem with breathing, I was having a problem with fatigue.

I am sure you read my story.. so I went to a pulmonary physician.. he ran a blood test.. there are some biomarkers that can indicate if there is anything wrong with you. One of mine was low, but treatment for it is optional (I chose not to get it).. he also mentioned it could be allergy.. allergy can start at any age for variety of reasons.. so he gave me an inhaler, which I didn’t use.. lol.. but there are a number of things that could be wrong, but I am sure they can find solutions for it.. my bet is it’s stress but check with your doctor.. also, you may want to reduce activities that create “excitement” or pressure on your heart just in case until you see a doctor..

I’m not having a problem with fatigue… just breathing!
Hey anon, I think if it’s still going on next week I’ll go see a doctor because it is honestly driving me mad! I hope they can give me some drugs to sort me out haha, that would be so much easier to treat than stress! :/
