How preferable is a uni degree for creative business type careers?
Say I wanted to work in one of these sectors:
Advertising, marketing and PR
Creative arts
Fashion and design
Media
Publishing
Retail
Just how preferable or essential is a degree for these type of jobs? Or is it even needed at all? They all have related degrees that seem to be often put down as “mickey mouse”, so I’m a bit unsure. Would it be better to just get a low job and then work one’s way up? Get an apprenticeship? Get other qualifications?
I do plan on seeing a careers advisor soon, but I’d just like some opinions from this forum. I would most like to hear advice and experience to from people who are already working in one of these sectors, or plan to and are working towards it. Thanks :)
