My roommate’s boyfriend is always over!
Okay, I have read responses to people who have posted being in a similar situation. I’d still like to post my specific dilemma and see if any good advice comes up. My roommate’s boyfriend lives about an hour and a half away. They started dating about 8 months ago and for the first 6 months it was fine because he usually came every weekend and was staying over about 2 or 3 nights a week on average. Now, in November, he had knee surgery (which my roommate failed to mention was happening until the day of) and posted up for recovery at my apartment… And that’s when my frustration began. He can’t work since he’s recovering from surgery so he has been essentially staying with us more or less since November. Sometimes he’ll go home but he’s usually back in less than a week and his visits are usually about a week long. He’s probably stayed here about 5 weeks during the last 2 months. I asked him today if he is going back to work soon and he said he just found out he has another knee problem and has to get surgery again. Argghhh!! I’m getting super frustrated. My roommate is great and so is her boyfriend. They are super nice, but I didn’t sign a lease to live with a couple! What is more frustrating is that I pay half the rent and my roommate has the better bedroom with a connected bathroom and walk-in closet (I have a very small room and my own bathroom across the hall). Also, he’s here while she’s at class, at work, hanging out with her friends.. Today she gave him a key to use to come and go while she was gone. I mean come on!? I did talk to my roommate about the situation once and she seemed understanding, things got a little better, but that was awhile ago and now it’s getting bad again. Sorry for the length of this post, I guess I’m just venting. What I really want to know is, am I being unreasonable for being frustrated?? What is fair here?? It’s not too much about the money although I guess I would feel better if he was helping pay bills. I don’t think that will happen since he isn’t even working and paying rent on his own place. I feel like I’m in a lose lose situation and I’m kind of pissed that I am put in the awkward position of having to bring it up to roommate.
