Does anyone know how to get scammers to stop calling your cell (in the US). I thought my phone was private and unlisted but recently I have been getting a rash of scammer phone calls from fake warranty renewal offers to fake debt collection agencies (I have no debt/loans at all). It is very annoying because my phone goes off in the middle of class, a meeting or at work and it’s these scammers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

https://www.donotcall.gov/

It takes up to 31 days after registering to be free of telemarketing calls. Has it been this long already? If not, just put your cell on mute when you don’t want to be disturbed and wait out the time.

I don’t know of any other way.

No replies, maybe because there is barely a solution. I do not give my cel tel# out. And I was not getting junk emails, until I signed on here. But at least, after putting them into the junk file, as they came in, I notice less and less:)

Yeah, figured as much about lack of answers, but thought it was still worth a shot. Looks like I’ll call up my network tomorrow and see what can be done to block the numbers (but it’s a new # every time). I never give my cell # out either, so I’m really confused how it’s getting spammed all of a sudden. Maybe I will change my number or something.

And thanks Kitty. Supposedly my parents put us all on the DNC List when it first came out a while ago, so not sure why it’s not working.

Oh well…the wonders of modern technology.

It’s fun to answer those spam calls, ask them very sweetly what their company is and how you can contact them, then remind them you are on the DNC list and that they’ll be met with legal action if they don’t make a note of that somewhere and stop calling.

A person has to renew being on the “Do Not Call List.” I mentioned this because you wrote it was “a while ago.”

Your registration will not expire. Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. Read more about it at

But if it was before February 2008, perhaps.

Lol yeah, harassing spammers is fun. I like it better on the internet. Sometimes they are wicked funny. It’s funny because I spent all of last semester actually defending people and working cases where they were being harassed by legit collection agencies and I can’t count the number of DNC letters I drafted and mailed out on their behalf. Ironic, right??

Anon–will look into renewal. Sometimes I am so clueless as to everyday stuff like this in my own life. Book smart, yes…common sense smart…still learning it seems. :/

Additional Info: I did some research but I know that my parents (who pay for the plan) already put all our numbers on the Do Not Call List. Don’t really feel like calling customer service and spending 5 hours trying to decipher the outsourced customer service rep…so figured I’d see if anyone had any ideas?
