I Just Let Go…

Looking through a blackened eye
I felt the pain but couldn’t cry
I tried to speak and felt the rip
From swollen tongue and busted lip.

I reached for you to hold you near
I loved you still throughout my fear
You turned your back and walked away
I layed there bleeding begging you to stay.

The lighting faded as I laid down my head
Remembering the very last words that you said
“Why do you make me hit you? It’s your fault ya know?”
…And with my last heart beat.. I just let go…

(I wrote this poem after a very abusive relationship.
It is all too familiar to many that have been there.)~SZI~

It is a touching poem, I hope that it speaks to a lot of people who have been in the same situation and that you are recovering from that horrible relationship.

I have recovered for the most part. However, the scars run deep and will last a lifetime. I just want other women as well as men.. to know that life is too short to have to live like this.
Thank you for your responses. :) Have a great day!

What a powerful poem. I could barely believe that I was sitting in my housecoat sipping coffee and browsing thru messages at Help.com. It was as if I had a front row seat for the taping of a Oprah program focussing on abuse, and that YOU were sitting beside her, sharing your poem, describing how you survived an abusive relationship, and encouraging other women to LEAVE before it was too late.

I was so moved by your words that I took a peek at your profile. What an interesting hobby you have!

And what a lighthouse YOU are.

Thank you for sharing your light.

Thank you Mizz Fireball. :) You made my day. :)
As they say… If but only one person is inspired enough, to get out of abuse, by my own experiences…then it is worth sharing!
Oprah, huh? :)That would be kool!

I agree, it’s a very moving poem, and I’m really glad that you got out of that relationship.
I feel awful when I read about women who have withstood abuse from their parter for so long- and you saying you got out of one of these relationships really cheers me up.

Thank you, Emma. Some women don’t make it out. Some barely. I was one of the lucky ones.

I am glad this is after and not during an abusive relationship. Love or circumstances can keep us in bad places. I’m glad you are out of yours.

It sure is. Abusers never take fault for their own actions. They cop out by blaming the one they abuse. And the one being abused will take the blame…whether it be out of love, afraid of losing them or their self esteem has been battered so badly by the abuser…they truly believe that they are at fault.
What frightens me is that this relationship abuse seems to be going on in really young relationships these days. Very sad. :/

I don’t see anything wrong with being single. Actually it can be a time for self development. Imagine being able to go out when you want to, eat when you want to, dress how you want to… :)

I just wanted to add a note to this…
My son has given a copy of this poem, to one of his friends, that was abusing his girlfriend. My son said that the guy hasn’t mistreated his girl since :) That just soooo made my day. :)
