question help: I’ve been raised Catholic my whole life. - Help.com

I’ve been raised Catholic my whole life.

As I get older, I question my beliefs. Especially now, when I’m pro-choice, support gay marriage, and spend most of my days being suicidal. Honestly, I’m done with Catholicism. I feel like I need a religion that I can actually believe in! One with a nice congregation who aren’t stuck up if you don’t agree with them. I see the flaws in the Catholic Church, I cant trust priests, I think its sexist and the bible needs to be updated. Some things, like contraception and homosexuality don’t need to be ignored or looked down on.
Any suggestions of a religion? I just need help and I don’t know where to start,
& please don’t try to force “god” back onto me. Its just not something that works with my life.
I need a savior, whether it’s a man or a women or a tree, I really don’t care. Just somebody.

I vote Atheism. So make it a tree if you need something to make you feel better.

Let the religion debate start:

Ho No, I’m terribly sorry to hear that, maybe you will get over it as you grow.
I’m a druid myself.

Even a tree? I offer you to join the Wiccan belief. We believe in the goodwill of people should be expressed and that everything has a soul. In a way, we praise nature. We believe in many gods, but no god that isnt mortal. Like we dont believe in an all mighty and powerful god. I too was raised Catholic my entire life, and i too questioned my religion.

Umm. One advice. Don’t confuse the people in Catholicism as being Catholicism itself. And hence rejecting Catholicism. You need strong Christians who are honest and intelligent, who can show you some light and admit their flaws in faith as well. That takes strength.

[However, if you’ve spent a LOT of time/years focusing on the flaws of Catholicism, then it won’t surprise anyone that these ‘flaws’ are sufficient for you to turn away now. It would have been a very logical direction you were going anyway. Just a matter of time… This is also a very basic Law of Attraction principle. Also mentioned in the Bible. Anyway, wishing you the best.]

If you are part of the Catholic church, (baptism, & confirmation) then you are ALWAYS part of the Catholic Church. You can’t leave. If you do, you’re just following Judas; Denying Christ.

I myself is thinking of suicide. I do not like Catholic because they are the most notorious sexists. I hate them… try unitarian universalists. They accept gay marriage — they have all the human equal rights, homosexual and gender equality. Catholic church does not have gender equality! They are the notorious sexists, even in the bible, they state women are not allowed to speak!

Um if your not catholic but was ‘babtised’ when you were young, all it is to you is being dumped in a tub of water. By saying this you are saying absolutely no other faith is true, which is an uncertain fact.

I agree so much with this statement, but don’t be suicidal please. This statement doesn’t only go with most catholics, but most people as well. Most people are ignorant and only see things there way, unable to accept anything else and believe everything else that’s different from there way is wrong. Then there are open minded people who believe everyone has there own opinion and is open to it with no consiquence or judgment from others.

You could become a spiritualist. You could go to a non denominational church.

I,like you, was raised catholic. From an early age I felt the sexism. As a child, since it was all about me, I thought “what is wrong with me”. since the church disrespects and hate women, I though something was wrong with me. Why couldn’t I be a priest if I wanted to. Then, at age 17 and forced to go to church, I heard the disgusting sermon “wives be submissive to your husbands”. At that time, I thought of marriage as slavery, and men as the enemy, just wanting to dominate me. I made the decision on that day to divorce the church as soon as I was able. I never went back, but the terrible messages I got from church have never left. Because of that day, I have experienced hatred and self-hatred that, at times, have ruined my life. Like you, I have attempted suicide, because I still feel, at times, that there is something wrong with me (being female and all). I wanted to find websites that are about people who were damaged by the church like I was. I know there are other religions out there that think better of women, but they still rely on the bible, which is a handbook for the hatred of women. Keep trying to get your life together, I’ve been trying for years and it’s hard. i hope you recieve all the happiness that you desire, I’m still trying for that. Good luck.
