I have a corrupt file!
The file C:\Documents and setting\owner\local settings\temp is corrupt and unreadable.
I have ran the Chkdsk utility and it keeps coming back right after!
What can I do because it’s killing my computer!

Yes, delete the file. Temp files are not neccessary for the system to run.
Okay, how? Just remove it?
Are you sure 100%?
right click and select delete.
or select with left button and on your keyboard hold down shift + del, then press Yes
I’m a wee bit lost, okay I go to my computer and click on C:/ and remove?
There isn’t such a thing without removing all my folders in it.
I’m lost!
When I right or left click the little white thing in my lower right tool bar goes away.
Then what are you talking about?
Post a replyIf I click on it, it goes away?
GO to:
C:\Documents and settings\owner\local settings\
and delete the file called “Temp”
by right click and select delete from the menu
or select with left button and on your keyboard hold down shift + del, then press Yes
liz,
go to your c drive
open documents and setting
open owner
open local settings
then find the “temp” file there
right click it and delete it
Holy moly!
I went step by step and I’m in owner right now, I’m not seeing anything that say temp.
you have to click the “local settings” in “owner” before you can see the file.
Local settings is inside owner file, open local settings and temp will be in there
Where do I find that:)
I’m not seeing a local settings?
Where?
Whatever!
All I see in owner is start menu, windows, desktop.
Copy and paste this into a window:
C:\Documents and settings\owner\local settings\
This will open the file, can you see Temp now?
Ok, step by step
You’re directory that you have posted says this:
C:\Documents and setting\owner\local settings\temp
SO that means you open the “c drive”
then inside that file, you open “documents and settings”
then inside that one, you open “owner”
then inside taht one, you open “local settings”
then inside there, the “temp” file should be there.
Unless the directory you posted is wrong.
I’m sitting in ownwe right now.
Anon that was not readable in my windows, sorry.
I run the clean everyday but it keeps popping back up.
I’m to the point I don’t care anymore.
Okay, found it but it says I can’t remove it because it’s corrupt!
GRRRRR!
I’m in local setting, I see temp, I right clicked.
It says error, can’t remove.
aaaaahhhhahahah!! sorry liz, i’m not laughing at you, just anthrax’s mind.
I’m right clicking and trying to send to my bin but it won’t let me, so now what, run the chkdsk utility again then try back later?
i dunno. I had a corrupt file on my old computer that just drove me crazy. i finally just threw the computer away.
You can laugh at me, really you can but I really can’t remove it.
I just got this computer so no way will I throw it away.
I have used spybot, yes. Virus scan as well. Formatting I’ve not tried.
It’s time for bed for me, I’ll do this later. My head hurts!
Thanks everyone, at least I have something to wake up to. :/
For the love of science and all that is reasonable, buy a Mac!
lo. hey “elizatron: the temp file you dont really need, im sure that you would be able to delete it without anything bad happening.

How is it killing your machine?
Mac’s are rubbish. They’re OS is far too ovcer complicated, and impossible to get decent programs for. If anything, get the new mac OS where you can also run windows…
The only good thing about Macs are the very nice UI. THATS IT

Okay, I just woke up after running the disk check and it froze and I tried again and it still said I can’t remove it.
How do I get the disk check to stop freezing so it can finish?

I bought a new mouse last night and let me tell you, I have a big smile on my face!
Anyhoo, It has killed my computer because my computer crashes and the pages scroll, I can’t write anything without it turning into scrolling ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++’s. It flikers and shuts off and on.
Kind of weird but my computer has a ghost.
disk check or scan disk?
i was under the impression that scan disk was suppose to find and try and fix corrupt files, and if it failed it was to delete it… but might only work while rebooting (like when you dont log out of windows before you turn comp off…)
if another program is (or is tring) to access that folder when you try to delete it, it wont allow it to be deleted… anothwer little spyware trick :(
i think i actually caught the spyware, but it still had a frozen folder (it was empty though, 0 bytes)
only way i could delete it was by going through and stopping all my programs till i could delete it… real pain…
have you installed the mouse driver? (remember if it’s USB and you move it you might need to reinstall driver again)

I have to reboot to use the chkdisk utility if that’s what you’re talking about.

Yes…That check disk has to run before the pc boots up all the way into windows…
From within windows you can use the Check Disk application and check two options. “Automatically fix filesystem errors” & “Scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors” and then when it prompts you to do a scan on the next restart, say yes and then restart. It takes a long time to do.. Very very long…And will take especially long when it gets to the damaged part of the drive…
if it’s freezing up on you, you might have a bad hard drive… if it’s more than 7 yrs old, i’d start looking for another harddrive… you can always try to ghost(copy) it before more things become corrupt…

I already know all that, I’m saying when I do that it stops and gets stuck.
I rebooted at 10:15 PM and woke up at 6:00 AM and it was froze. It ran all night and still nothing.

Does the red light on your pc still flicker and can you hear the hard drive doing anything or is it really completely locked up?
An Undisclosed Location | 3 years, 1 month ago (10 hours, 9 minutes after post)
No light but I can hear it.

I’m confuzzled here. Is the file still there? The ‘temp’ one? The best way to get rid of whatever’s in there is to go to Internet explorer, click ‘tools’, then ‘internet options’, and then ‘delete files’ If you have Mozilla firefox go to ‘tools’ then ‘clear private data’. then check the ‘cookies’ and ‘temp files’ box. I’m guessing there’s another problem by now, so which type of computer do you have? A Mac or Windows? I’ve only worked on fixing a Windows OS before so it’s the only one I know well…Sorry if that didn’t help.^^;
