Tell me about earthquakes!

My town has had earthquake warnings on the news for a week straight. I guess we are due or something?

Anyhoo, I’ve never been in one and it kind of freaks me out.

Tell me about them.

My first earthquake was the ‘89 earthquake in San Francisco. It was a really scary experience. One minute you are doing what you normally do and the next your surroundings are shaking. I don’t want to freak you out but the best thing to do is be prepared. Know exactly what you’re going to do if an earthquake happens.

I lived in LA for four years….we used to have minor EQ all the time…. it just rumbles…. no big deal….. Up here in Tahoe we had a pretty good size one 2 years ago….woke me up….pictures shaking off the walls…..bed moving…. it was kinda fun actually…. but no real casualties….
THAT SF 89 was intense…… have a buddy in San Jose that was playing soccer…. the field started to roll……

I worked the earthquake of 1989. I was an adjustor for State Farm and we stayed in the Raddison in San Jose and I was on the fifth floor talking to an agent and they had one, 5.2. That was enough for me..scary…The whole blgd was going back and forth.

Mississippi looked so much better!

Now I’m scared!

MsE, did you read about the 1812 EQ, it re-routed the Mississippi River.

No need to worry, the odds are huge for the next big one.

Two Things Not to Worry About
by Source Unknown

In my life, I have found there are two things about which I should never worry. First, I shouldn’t worry about the things I can’t change. If I can’t change them, worry is certainly most foolish and useless. Second, I shouldn’t worry about the things I can change. If I can change them, then taking action will accomplish far more than wasting my energies in worry. Besides, it is my belief that, 9 times out of 10, worrying about something does more danger than the thing itself. Give worry its rightful place - out of your life.

I happen to be in a miner one about a year and a half ago. It was really wierd, I was in my office on the first floor and felt the building shake, the windows ratteled and it was as if someone had run into the building with a truck. Later that evening I mentioned it to my husband and he said that he was standing in a parking lot and you could actually see the ground move and he said it felt wierd. It just happened so fast, by the time I walked from my desk to the window (to see what happened) it was over. Then a co-worked said that it was an earthquake, it was confirmed later that evening on the news.
