Week help: In the past week my dog has been drinking too much water. - Help.com

In the past week my dog has been drinking too much water.

She drinks about 1 bowl (about 1 full glass) per hour. She’s a small dog and has never drank so much like this before. I know it could be a sign of diabetes, but is there something else to it? By the way, I’m diabetic, so would my insulin injections work for the dog as well, in case it happens?

I think insulin produced by the human body is much different from that of a dog, but I could be completely wrong…bring her to the vet!

She could just be really hot and dehydrated.

I am not a doctor, but (not to be personal) how old is your dog? I was talking to my mom one day. I was like “Why is Sasha (her dog) drinking so much??” She said it was probablly because of her old-age.
I would ask your animal doctor before doing anything with your own insulin. It may really hurt the dog, or it may not. But I would personally check first.

I wish you the best luck. She’ll be OK.

Thanks for the replies. She’s 4 years old soon and never had any problems. I personally think that any kind of insulin can be used by any kind of animal, since before it’s production it was taken from animals (as far as I know). I’ll ask around and consult with the vet. Thanks

Do NOT give your dog insulin without seeing a vet and getting their opinion and diagnosis first!
