A foreign sounding man, hard to understand called me

this morning 6.21.11 and tried to scare me into believing he was with Microsoft and that I had serious problems with both my Windows XP and Windows 7 programs. He insisted that I go to my computer and bring up mytechonline.net and click on the American flag and then go to the access to Microsoft tech assistant icon. When I kept asking him questions, he was difficult to understand but when I brought up the tech icon it asked for my name and pin#. When I quickly scanned the page, I said are you trying to sell me something, how do I know you are a legitimate Microsoft rep…and is this a scam or are you trying to download a virus on my system. He said he was legit, but that if my warantee with my programs had expired, there would be a onetime fee. I refused to give my pin # and told him I was not going to follow his instructions and hung up. I called back the 559-478-7796 # that showed on my phone I.D. Another man answered, when I asked what company I was calling…he hung up. I have put a warning on Facebook and when I looked at the Mytechonline website, I see it was the same tel. # I had just called back. I wrote them a complaint on their site saying it was a shoddy way to do business, that I have put a warning on Facebook and would notify the media.

The person I talked with was pushy, hard to understand, kept insisting I had serious problems with my programs and that he was calling to help…that the problems were nationwide and led me to believe he was with Windows…and I knew that if anything were really wrong, I would have received notices from Windows themselves on my computers and patches, updates etc.

So beware - this is a telemarketing scam to scare you into buying their product!

contact your local police station and inform them so they can start a proper investigation into it. the police hq will have a tech department that will shut the site down eventually and try and find the scammers hopefully before they scam someone

Trying to obtain money under false pretenses? That is what is sounded like he was doing. In any case, it’s a criminal offense

I was called on 13/7/2011 from mytechonline.net a man named Steve he was trying to sell me something when i said no then he tried to forced me to buy. He was anyways difficult to understand, his accent was too tough to understand. Then he connected my computer to his technician named Dave was showing in my screen and they have deleted one of my important folder. And said i need a warranty immediately to protect my computer from corrupted program . This company is definitely a scam. I have already filed a complain to my attorney and to Fed. Plz do not entertain any calls from them. Their number is 559-478-7796.

That I don’t believe.
It’s not possible to connect your computer to somebody just by a phone call and to delete folders from afar.
No attorney can help you in such an obscure case.
I assume that you didn’t tell us the whole and real story …
