“emo” is tied to goth people by what they wear, but “emo” is short for “emotional.” they usually have more negative emotions then positive, get depressed because of it, thus the cutting link.

EMO is type of person you are. Actually most EMO’s dont cut themselves. EMO is also considered to be the style that you are. Most EMO’s listen to hard core music and dress in band tees and skinny jeans.

Emo can be many things actually… if you cut your a cutter not an emo, that is a common misconception, emo can be a style of clothes you wear such as “Tripp” pants or other clothing with chains or something like that, emo may also be defined as a genre of music mostly (in my opinion) related to punk music, but mainly music that expresses negative thinking such as cutting or other self destructive acts. and lastly emo can be considered an attitude which would be describing a defiantly passive person meaning that you dont like the rest of the world so you just shrug them off or dont care about them. many people (once again in my opinion) can be somewhat emo, nobody has to be branded completely one thing unless thats what they are. i have known emo/preps, emo/punkers, and emo/goths. many things can be considered emo but as i mentioned the most common (and incorrect) way of using the term has something to do with self destructive behavior.

There is an urban saying “EMO is like Goth for pu$$ies”. So imagine a goth looking kid, in all the makeup, with ridiculous hair and spiked accessories; then add lots of emotions with no skills or no desire of controlling them, overreacting to everything and crying all the time. Also cutting sometimes because they make themselves depressed because melancholical mood is a part of the “game”. And nobody likes a whining and constantly complining emo around, so they end up isolated and depressed, as a result of THEIR OWN actions. Ans thus some of them cope with cutting; partly because it’s a coping strategy, partly because it’s almsot advertised as an inseparable part of being an emo.
