Actually, Gaara is a pretty popular character. But his cuteness is somewhat undercut by his general creepiness and his transformation into a hideous half-demon. Charismatic? Maybe. Cute? Not so much…

Classic case: he was not loved enough as a boy. He had no family and no friends. He was betrayed one time too many. Consequently he became angry and homicidal towards the world. He’s about as safe to have around as a rabid pit-bull at this point.

Well, Gaara’s too clever to go on a rampage, but yes, he does kill people. He hates people. Never having been loved, he certainly doesn’t love anyone else. I haven’t seen every episode, but as best I can tell he’s never had any really friends. He has worked with allies, but this always seems short-term relationships. These aren’t friendships.

i think i know why i’m so worked up over Gaara. i have a friend that would be dead right now if it hadn’t been 4 me. i was the only one giving her some love at the time. shes gone trough so much. i can’t imagen what would have happend if i hadn’t have been there. Poor Gaara, i want to jump into the show and give him a big hug! (assooming he wont kill me)

Yeah, it is tragic about Gaara… He doesn’t even have a dog. Still It’s kinda cool that a bunch of drawing can actually make a person feel anything.

Some anime is really cool because it can be more than just battling robots. I have a recommendation if you never saw it. Go rent the series “Last Exile” - it has great lead characters you can really root for. And if you like a little romantic moodiness served with your animation try anything directed by Makoto Shinkai, like “Voices of a Distant Star”.
