So I would like for some people to give me some criticism about my writing/drawing.
Lately I have been kind of brutal with anything I’ve done and I’ve ripped it up cause I don’t think it’s good. Anyways, I would like if I got good and bad points brought up. My stuff isn’t amazing so I know there is some way that I can improve it. Thank you for anything you offer.
If you feel up for it, a lot of my stuff can be found on my tumblr < http://scrawlingsofinsanity.tumblr.com/ >

I think It looks pretty cool. Every artist has his own style.
What syle are you going for? Right now it has kinda a realistic yet catoonish style.
So my question is, what about your drawing are you trying to inprove?

Well I do pretty bad when it comes to drawing actual people. I can draw myself fairly well but when I draw another person, I seem to be missing something. It’s like the picture resembles them but it lacks something to make it “be” them. That’s why I don’t have any other people posted up, I don’t think they’re done right.
Wow these are really nice! Your In Love In Death and Piccolo are my favorites! I would suggest a bit of difference in shading and the width of lines in the first and second picture. I also like how clean and precise the pictures look.

Thanks. Shading has always been something I struggle with. Normally I tear holes in the paper cause I’m shading, erasing it, and then re-shading so many times lol.
Keep drawing and writing. When you draw from life, look for dark and light rather than just lines. Squint your eyes and notice where shadows fall and light reflects. Try working with charcoal or ink. Charcoal helps you to focus on light/dark and forms rather than details. And ink is great because you can’t erase, so you’re forced to keep everything you draw rather than erasing and tweaking.
Well, practice makes perfect. I draw also but fail to create a Natural human portrait. I think your problem is (if you are trying to make it more realistic) You draw too dark. try shading areas like the nose a bit lighter, and prehaps make an eyelid for his eye? More realistic features.

Solid advice, I’ll definitely remember that. I might have a charcoal stick around here somewhere that I can use.

Yeah, I’d like to have at least one realistic portrait. Like I said earlier, shading has always gotten me lol. I tend to shade everything all one shade and that’s it.
When we perceive everyday common objects, our brain filters out anything ordinary so things like minor detailing and shading aren’t properly perceived in all their detail. Next time you copy something, start small, very small. Notice the intricate detailing in the smallest of areas. Even skin has a texture.
Also, when trying to master shading, it can help to draw arrows in the direction light is coming towards your figure.
A handy exercise for shading is to start with a circle, then shade it. Then begin stretching the circle in different places to create more difficult, less perfect shapes and shade them too.
Also another handy piece of advice which may seem obvious is, sharpen your pencil! Have it as sharp as you can make it, and sharpen it regularly.
You know I’ve always loved your art so I’m not gonna be much of a critic.
I think it is really great. You have your own style. The tree picture that actually has some color in it is my fav. Try more than just pencil, get some color going and experiment more.
@wil: Thank you sir. I’m going to give the circle a try in a bit.
@Puck: Awe thanks friend, that means a lot :) Surely you have something to say though :P
Check out this image of a woman’s face.

Notice which parts of the face reflect the most light: the forehead, nose, cheeks, upper lip and chin. Also notice how the cornea and pupil reflect a small spec of light. Including this is key for drawing realistic eyes.
And look for the shadows around the eyes, nose, neck, etc.
If you study many portraits, you will start to see patterns in the way light forms light and shade on a face. Squinting your eyes helps.
just remember Da Vinci wanted to throw away the Mona Lisa because
he didn’t like it.
@Elk: I don’t think I’ve ever done the reflection in the eye before. Thanks for pointing some of those areas out, I’ll start working on them.
@spiratec: Thank you for the analogy but I am no where near as important/good as da Vinci lol.

That probably what he thought too.
as I was looking at the page I did notice some flaws in composition of the faces. So I would definatley look at being able to draw the composition in the pictures better. You know how with how some people draw things they use circles, shapes and lines to place stuff? That helps alot.
Otherwise keep drawing, your getting better.
