friends help: My friend apparently copied down his friend’s mom’s - Help.com

My friend apparently copied down his friend’s mom’s credit card information and purchased something online with it…

The order went through, and the charge was made successfully. If the name of the person its being shipped to is different from the name on the card, will that like, automatically alert the police of a discrepency? I read online that at the end of the month the person will see the bill and know they didn’t buy something, and THEN trouble will come. But is there anything else that could get him in trouble quicker?

He is thinking about telling the mom and apologizing and giving her her money back and hoping that will save him before its too late.

He will probably get away with it but his mom may notice later.

If his mom notices later on the statement or whatever, can something bad still happen to my friend even if she doesn’t want to press charges?

Is there a chance that, if my friend waited to tell her until she actually saw it on her statement, that she could accidentally start a problem for my friend by trying to find out who it was that used her card without her permission? What if she got police involved and then didn’t want to get him in trouble once she found out who it was?

If she notices, like most responsible adults/parents would and he doesn’t say anything prior, like me, I would think it was a mistake and contact the credit card people and dispute the charge. From there, I don’t know what would happen however, the place where the item was purchased may dispute it right back and provide the credit card co. With all information provided to purchase the item. And also, if he lives at home with his mom, what is he going to do when the item arrives? Wont she see it? And if he doesn’t live at home, im sure they can track where the item was sent….the right thing to do is to come clean. Basically, it is stealing no matter how you look at it. Telling her now and getting it over with now instead of waiting is the best thing to do. Don’t steal from your mother,
