Will I lose my Permanent Resident status if I do not renew my Green Card?

If you allow your Green Card to expire, do not care. You will likely not fall back your Permanent Resident position. However, since you are expected by jurisprudence to hold proof of your Permanent Residency you really need to regenerate your expired Green Card as quick as possible. Remember that the USCIS agency can provide irregular validation of your legitimate position while you look for your new Green Card. If in some manner you do not obtain your new Green Card before your impermanent evidence runs out, just go to your localized USCIS authority so that they can up date your written document.
