Nope, sometimes I come on here to just look at replies and then leave. Other times I come on, look at 5 or 6 posts and leave.

I get that same feeling. But then when I’m here I feel like I’m neglecting the rest of my routine.

Good question. I suppose some might think of this place as a highly addictive drug.

Withdrawl symptoms???
Oh…yessssss.
My area has been suffering from many natural disasters in the past month.
Earthquake…hurricane…tropical storm (current)…
And therefore, we have experienced massive power outages…too many…
The battery is near dead on my puter…so when the power goes, so does my Help.com time.:(
Withdrawl?
You mean sadness? Feeling torn away from my best friend? Lonliness?
Yeah its all there.
The power is ON at the moment…:))))
I’ve been told by professionals that lonliness is the biggest reason for people to get attached to a website like this one.
You come on here and help someone, and in return, well not always but mostly, you are appreciated for a moment in time.
Probably more here than in real life.
It gives us a sense of worth…It makes us feel happy.
For the moment.
Then we move on to the next post….same thing….Its a give and take….
In the real world, there is alot more take.
I love this site….for years.
Well, as I said, my power is on right now….and….here I am….LOL…
But lately I’ve begun to take breaks. It really helps…
And being on this site has not hurt my personal life…In fact it may have enriched it some…I get very good advice from the helpers here….
And as long as that is the way it is….I’ll be here….when the power permits…:)))

I used to but not any thing that would cause any physical upset just the ‘need’ to see what was going on here, I guess incase I was missing anything but now no, I can log out for days/weeks and not think of this place, no offence to anyone.

I guess it depends on why you come to help.com as to whether or not it has that kind of addiction impact on you. People with strong wills that would never do drugs, they don’t become addicted to narcotics, even if they are given a significant amount of narcotics as hospital treatment. But weak-willed people take narcotics, and get addicted to them. They grow DEPENDENT on them.

Help.com can be a seductive place, because it offers this idea of dependency. You can depend on getting answers from other people. It kinda reminds me of that “Two Weeks Notice” movie where Hugh Grant is a billionaire, but he cannot make even the smallest of decisions on his own because he’s entirely dependent upon Sandra Bullock’s good judgment. She picks out his clothes, his stationary, helps him with his schedule, and even helps him with dating. And that’s what I worry about with some people on Help.com.

When you start seeing posts like “Should I wear this green dress or this black dress?” or “How do I look in this photo?” it reminds me of that movie. People have gotten so addicted to getting other people’s advice, that they’ve forgotten how to trust their own opinions. Or the opposite is true. People get so much ego-stroking that they forget that their opinions are just opinions. They get addicted to giving advice and arguing with people, because they thrive on the drama and attention, or they are an insufferable know-it-all.

Everybody goes through one or all of those things at some point in their lives. Really smart kids in school go through the know-it-all phase. High school freshmen fall in with whatever “clique” because they don’t trust their own ideas. And anybody that loves watching “Reality Shows” on TV have experienced the excitement that comes from arguments and drama.

But none of those things help you, or anybody else. They just entertain, or divert you from what actually needs to be addressed and examined.

Well in that case I hope you don’t have to experience anymore natural disasters in the near future.

You have to hand it to the professionals, they always seem to provide a reasonable explanation for things.

Maybe he should log in and make a post?

Seems odd that he doesn’t if he still has an interest in the place. Are you sure he isn’t busy doing other things with his life now?

So - where do you fit in? Are you his best buddy or something?

Hmm… No. The same things I do on this website I do in the rest of my life when I choose to. I come back because of the endearing people ^^ So no withdrawal, I think. I can be away from here for a while working on things and forget about it. But I remember and I’m curious how people are doing.

I feel heaps better usually.

I come to this place to churn through painful things, so it gets me down. Healthy long term, but easier to just ignore.

But I do like coming back to see a full shout box… :)

Help.com has really helped me when I was very down a few years earlier, and I remember that and have just returned as I’m going through another very rough patch. So yes, this site does mean something to me, and especially the people that make it so.

When I am not on here for three days or more I dream about it. Serious withdrawal… if I can stay off or just make a few responses for a week suddenly it doesn’t seem so important. I really have been doing this more and more because I waste sooo much time here that could better be spent on other things in my life.

I am hooked though. If I get drunk or have an unexpected day off I suddenly relapse and go on an 8 hour Help.com binge. ;D

Wow Ozymosis does the same thing… just noticed her response. Jackson121 this site is less than 6 years old and your profile says 3 years 8 months.

I like to write. Normally I have nothing to write about. This site gives me an excuse to write and say things that I could not tell people I have to see every day face to face….. it is a wonderful outlet for my mind and I will probably stay here for a very long time.

yeah, help.com is a great place to write. i’ve been moving away from being here every day since life has been busy and i don’t have internet at my apartment, but every once in a while between classes i start thinking, “i’ve been neglecting my help.com” and find my way back here. :) i use this site so much more than any other social networking site.

I find it annoying to type anything longer than a sentence on my phone. But the phone is convenient should you ever need help on the fly I guess.

I’m not so bothered to be honest. I would love to get back together with all my old friends from here and talk like we used to but I think everyone’s probably too busy now to get together properly. I’d love to chat again, but you know. plus it’s rare I get on the computor myself. I miss when I used to talk to my friends alot.

I used to be proper addicted to coming on here, I don’t know what it is.honestly, first thing on a morning, hours and hours on end, till 3 o clock in the morning.. I remember being so tired and staying awake to try and help Lynne R cod I wasx worried about her and she turned out to be a waste of space…

I think that is totally spot on. I was really lonely. I still don’t have many friends, still get lonely sometimes or wish I had more friends, but I still have someone by me most of the time that I can be grateful for. kim, my boyfriend or his family mostly. but past that I’m pretty much a loner. wish I had more friends and I still feel that empty gap sometimes, probably more so from my parents..
