Cable is thunderbolt to hdmi (male).

The a/v unit is onkyo tx-nr609.Onkyo passes video thru to panasonic tv,no problem.THERE IS NO AUDIO.Mac preferences -sound-does not see the onkyo..Mac preferences-display-recognizes that the MacBook is connected to the Onkyo.Any thoughts…..thanks,don.

Check the System Preferences > Sound > Input (Line-in)

Are you sure your source device is sending sound through the HDMI? Many devices will not, or must be configured to do so. Also, make sure the audio stream is configured (if possible) to a format the receiver can decode.
