How do get him to move on without making the rest of the year awkward??

life is awkward, but this guy isn’t your responsibility, be kind but firm. He will move on, but he has to know where he stands.

Be kind but firm, and leave nothing to misinterpretation and don’t hint around at it. Be direct and TELL HIM!

Thanks for all your help, I told him “nicely” and things were awkward that day but today was fine! so all is good :) thanks again x
