I’m 4 weeks pregnant and take Xanax for panic disorder and anxiety.

I’ve been on it for 3 years and I take 6mg a day. This is my 3rd baby . My last one is 2 1/2 yrs old and is healthy and had no birth defects and I took Xanax my whole pregnancy with him bc I couldn’t get off of it bc I’ve been on it so long but I slowed down but still took it daily. I know they say it’s bad to take in pregnancy and I’m stressing that it will cause problems with this one but I can’t see myself getting off my last doctor said you can’t just stop taking it when you’ve been on it this long .. My 2 1/2 yr old is a very active and smart just did some things later than normal but is doing just fine. Any information or facts / advice about this? If maybe you were in the same situation?

It doesn’t look like it’s incredibly horrible or anything, but I personally wouldn’t take any medication while pregnant…I’d rely on natural meds like heroine and crack. lol…totally kidding. Of course taking any kind of medication will carry some risk, but you’re going to do what you think is necessary, so if you can’t wean yourself off of it, you should be okay.

Congratulations on the baby, by the way. I’m sure your doctor knows the dosage you are on. Maybe call his/her office and double check if they might have any concerns for you. Above all, keep smiling. I don’t think you have that much to worry about.

That’s because there is no 100% guarantee. The best practice is just to avoid it unfortunately, because no one really knows the facts. There’s too many variables still to know for sure:( It really depends on what’s in your/your child’s best interest is…right?

Well it’s not as easy as that being that I’ve taken it for so long and how dangerous it is to get off of

Yeah, I understand. If it was that easy you wouldn’t be asking;) Could you gradually reduce your dosage over a few months and maybe end on a very low dose? Do you think it would help or be possible. Obviously, the less you take will lessen the chance of it having a negative effect.
