Sound help: i have a guitar related question. - Help.com

i have a guitar related question.

for 4 years i have been playing electric guitar. i practice very hard and used to be into metal but am now enjoying blues more such as srv, hendrix, bb king, clapton, etc. i have pretty small fingers (my middle finger is just a bit more than 3 inches, my pinky is only 2). i have good note and lick selection when improvising but there is somrthing about my playing that sounds so “robotic” or “automated”. just like the individual sound of a note or bend. the problem is i know what i want to hear but i dont know how to achieve that sound. my friend was just over who has slightly longer fingers than mine, hes only been playing 2 years but there is something just more natural sounding about how his notes sound (even though he does not always pick the right ones as of yet) does anyone know what is wrong and how to correct it and sound more human and bluesy???

??What pic are you using? Are you using alternate picking, up, down. up,? Do you have the string action very low, as low as possible without getting fret buzz? Are you using light strings? Do you clip your fingernails very very short? Do you do stretching exercises on your fretting hand? Do you play tense and do not breath naturally? Do you use the minimum amount pressure on your fretting hand to attack a note? Do you raise your fretting finger upwards up after attacking a note? Is you fretting finger in back of the fret? Do you raise your fretting fingers up higher then necessary, the closer your fingers hover over the frets the more natural the tone of the note, primarily because there is less energy and les movement to attack a note? Do you want a free online lesson from me?

The wood in the guitar, the pick’s thickness and material, the amp, the strings, and your technique play a large part in your sound.
