Lol, I thought it was for giving thanks they’d escaped Britain. But no, its based on a story where early settlers were starving and the native americans saved them with gifts of berries. Later the indians were killed. - oh I made that last bit up, but they might have been

they took all their land and broke all the treaties previously agreed - causing the Native American way of life to absolutely decimated (forgetful me!)

The following are all rhetorical questions:

Why is it a ‘pain’ to be thankful for what you have? why over analyze the history behind it? Why not just try to be thankful wherever you are?

How about being thankful for being able to afford to pay for a taxi ride and not have to walk?
