There ARE side effects, but if it’s suggested by a doctor I guess there must be some sort of reason behind it..? Why did he suggest taking it in the first place?

I don’t think you need to take pills at all, most girls have some irregularity with their periods around your age and I did too. I also found that the older I got, the more regular and more controllable (amount of blood lessened) it got, so I think you just need to be patient for a bit.

Hmm, well I had been blessed not to suffer any menstrual cramps or pmt (except for the unusual odd cases), and my mom was the same so I guess these sort of problems are more or less genetic.

But I heard that getting lots of regular exercise is good for suppressing these sort of symptoms, and I also recommend eating things like sweet potatos or yams (recommended by my aunt).

its not necessary that you ll have to take them throughout your life.. Its just for few months and then you can stop once your cycle is regular.. Their is no harm in taking… Dont worry.. Its just for 2-3 months..

I started the pill when I was 14, I think. And while it did help with pmt and cramps,, it made my periods random, I don’t recomend it. Shots are alot better, and now I don’t have a period, so try different means, you could finfd what is best for your body that way.

I would not use the pill till you have to. I do not understand why doctors are still giving the pill out for so many reasons. Your body gets use to the pill then it does not work for “birth control ” the reason for the pill. Then when a girl ends up carrying a child at 19, and didn’t think it would happen because she is on the pill. After five plus years it does not work with your body anymore.

The side effects on the pill are super rare. The main one they warn you about is blood clots in your legs, however there is a REALLY small chance of that happening. Like so small I wouldn’t even worry about it even a little bit. I have been taking the pill for three years and I have never had any problems. If your doctor and you parents think it’s the right thing to do then go for it! I promise you will be fine :)
