Can depression cause a terrible complexion?

This is my logic: depression is giving me digestive problems and causing me to sleep poorly and eat poorly and drink alcohol
I know that all of these can give you skin problems (i have acne, blackheads, uneven skin, dark circles under my eyes, just a terrible complexion that makes my depression worse every time i look in a mirror)
I am going to the doctors on monday to get some antidepressants, do you think that if they work and i start to sleep better and my digestive problems improve and i absorb more nutrients, eat healthier, start exercising, my complexion will get better??
its so bad i planned to kill myself a few days ago but couldnt go through with it, please help, i dont know what to do

TheGerman, not eating well and drinking can indeed affect your complexion, as can a general lack of care of the self. Those things also exacerbate depression. When we are depressed, we tend to focus on specific things in our environment or ourselves and fixate on them, especially when things feel out of control. You need to address the depression first.

I am so glad you are going to a doctor for help on Monday. That is the most important thing - getting support and proper treatment.

Don’t harm yourself. Antidepressants can take a while to kick in, but they do help. There is absolutely no doubt that eating healthier, exercising, sleeping better, drinking more water, paying closer attention to hygiene etc. will improve your complexion. Those things will also help to alleviate your depression.

Hang in there until Monday and in the mean time, start to make small changes. You don’t need to change everything at once - and trying is likely to stall your efforts to get back on track. Especially since depression saps motivation. Just pick one thing and do it every day for a week. Then pick a second thing and add it in. Write it down and check it off the list every day. It can be anything. Take a 15 minute walk, talk to someone for 15 minutes, eat a vegetable, drink more water. Anything at all.
