You are working the collection Accounts Receivables (A/R) and you come across a patient who has moved and left no forwarding address.

The patient happens to be a friend of yours. Should you update the records and proceed with collections. Why or Why not?

I do not think so. For one yes they should have left a forwarding address but two is it your responsibility? Maybe you should ask them if you should update it (I mean your friend…) What do you think they would say? What if the situation were in reverse? How would you feel if just because the person doing the collection knew your address they decided to update it, would you be upset? Maybe they didn’t leave a forwarding address for a reason… yes to make the collections stop, but it’s just like disconnecting your phone or changing your number when someone is bothering you. IDK, maybe you should talk to the person about it and get there take on it and go from there.

But as a friend, No I wouldn’t do it without consulting them and if they say don’t do it, then don’t… confidentiality between friends.
