A fad diets is one of the unhealthiest things you can do to your body.

Eat healthy but in smaller portions.
Get out an exercise more. Cut out the soda/alcohol/energy drinks.
A soda a day equals ten pounds over a year (on average)

Be realistic twenty pounds by Christmas is a lot. It is far better for you to lose 10 lbs and get in a healthy habit and keep it off.

Start with an apple fast.

For 3 days eat nothing but apples, apple juice (organic no sugar added) and warm water. You’ll lose a few pounds from this fast alone.

Once coming off of that, eat only raw foods. All the veg and fruit you want.

You can eat as much raw food as you want, but stay away from anything processed. If you eat meat, keep it poached and plain. You can use olive oil but not butter or sauces.

This is way you will lose weight AND its good for your body. Gives your system a nice fresh reboot.

Don’t exercise a little, walk 15 miles (or run, just keep the distance). And don’t way any sugar. Sure you can eat a burger and fries. But your body will require more salads. Do this. (and stop all forms of sweetener) then you’ll lose weight quickly!

If you do the apple fast you cant really exercise for 3 days. You can do yoga, but thats about it. I just finished mine and its hard but totally do able. If you can do it, it really helps you realize how much control you actually do have over what you eat, plus it helps you flush out the need for sugar! And its safe.

http://www.astrodreamadvisor.com/Body…

And yah, after that, eat raw vegetables and homemade soups, working in the occasional protein. AND TONS TONS TONS of water! Lemon water is best.

Thanks :) and with the apple fast can u drink water?

YES!!! Lots and lots of water. Warm water is most beneficial for digestion. If you are starting the apple fast tomorrow, your last meal tonight should be a salad and water, maybe put some lemon in it. Prep your system for whats coming - a flush!!!

it does get difficult because its only apples for 3 days, but it totally worth it. You feel so good, I was very euphoric on my fast.

Anony,
Most medical doctors would agree with following the dietary advice of “Edgar Cayce (pronounced Kay-Cee, 1877-1945) has been called the “sleeping prophet,” the “father of holistic medicine,” and the most documented psychic of the 20th century,” questionalble.

Fasting tricks your body into thinking you are enduring a period of starvation.
http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/201111…
Experts rated 20 popular diets on a scale of 1 to 5 — 5 being best. For the ranking, they focused on nutrition and safety, Giancoli tells WebMD. Previous rankings have considered weight loss, heart health benefits, and ease of compliance.

Here, the scores of the top five and why these diets earned a best rating:

DASH Diet, 4.8. Endorsed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, DASH is meant to prevent high blood pressure. It’s heavy on produce and low in saturated fat and salt.
TLC Diet, 4.7. The National Institutes of Health developed this plan. It’s high in fiber and calcium and low in saturated fat.
Mediterranean Diet, 4.6. This eating plan includes lots of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, salmon, and ‘’heart-healthy'’ fats such as olive oil. Red wine in moderation is encouraged.
Mayo Clinic Diet, 4.5. The plan developed by Mayo Clinic experts includes foods with low energy density, such as fruits and vegetables. It allows dieters to eat more while eating fewer calories.
Volumetrics Diet, 4.5. Another plan that’s based on low energy-dense food, Volumetrics focuses on fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nonfat dairy, and lean meats.

APPLE FAST - NO LONGER THAN 3 DAYS - it gets dangerous after that.

RAW FOOD DIET - As long as you want…probably until Christmas if you wish, and much after that

Fasting is an age old practice and it being harmful to the body is still under much debate. So long as it is done correctly, fasting can be quite beneficial to the system.

Most medical Doctors are quick to prescribe medications for problems that can sometimes be solved alternatively.

However, you shouldn’t do a fast over 3 days unless you have informed a health care practitioner.

would this be safe apple fast- 3 days

apple fast- 3 daays

and like that for the next 3 weeks?
or is that dangerous? and by dangers what dangers does this have?

I wouldn’t recommend that. It will wreck havoc on your kidneys and your liver. When you dont eat, or restrict your eating like that, your body does go into starvation mode and it beings to eat the protein and fat is has on reserve. The fast is meant to be done roughly every 3 months or so, not so close together. Its a safe flush for the system, but only when its done within guidelines it was designed (3-4x a year)

You’d get a better result from just doing the one apple fast and then following with the raw food diet.

Plus, you wont get the same great results from the second fast if its so close to the first one.

read this, it will help you better understand.

the fast should NOT be considered a diet. It is meant to cleanse the system and show you how much control you have over what you eat. I recommend this one because its safe and gentle on the system because you can eat as many apples as you like.

The raw food diet is best for a prolonged period.

Available scientific evidence does not support claims that fasting is effective for preventing or treating cancer. Even a short-term fast can have negative health effects, while fasting for a longer time could cause serious health problems.
http://www.cancer.org/Treatment/Treat…

Among his “good reasons for fasting,” Paul Wenner did not include it as a weight-loss plan. To the contrary, he noted that many persons fasting for three days report actual gains, because the body “thinks” it’s entering a famine and defends itself by slowing the metabolism, thus conserving calories.
http://www.fitwise.com/fasting_progra…

And there are hundreds of more articles.
Fasting tricks your body into thinking you are starving. It will SLOW your metabolism and make any generated fat cells harder to reduce. Sound familiar? Since this is not a ‘real’ fast - apples. You are loading your body with only one type of nutrient source - bad. Apples are also high in acid and can give you the runs if you eat too many. If you have a severe case you can dehydrate yourself.

Just saying. Doesn’t sound like a healthy alternative. Fresh veggies, no soda/alcohol/energy drinks, limit fat, starch and heavy meats along with plenty of exercise and water. That way you will drop the pounds permanently and not keep shocking your system each time you want to lose a little weight.

I personally just did the apple fast and felt zero negative side effects. Zero. I did not have the runs, I didnt feel depressed, I didnt get headaches or dizziness - I actually felt light and euphoric. Everyone is different, but I have no complaints about this particular fast. There are many other ones out there, however, that seem to be a lot more dangerous for your internal organs.

Apples are very nutritious and 3 days of only apples is very unlikely to cause you any harm. The fiber helps to cleanse the digestive tract, the malic acid keeps you in good health, and the pectin in the apples help to leech the toxins from your blood, which are dumped from the liver and kidneys. It is just meant to give your stomach a nice break from all the harmful foods you are ingesting.

And by the way Mr Grit - this fast is probably a lot less harmful then all the chemically altered fruits, vegetables, and canned food people consume on a day to day basis without thinking twice about it.

http://sciencenetlinks.com/science-ne…

I mean there is BPA in canned foods for goodness sake! Its all terrible. Food has truly decreased in nutritional value and there are hidden chemicals that people readily eat because they cant see it and its cheap.

One mz Casey I gather you are neither a nutritionalist nor a medical doctor. I am quoting people who are experts in the field. Because something did not have a negative effect on you does not in any way mean it is safe for someone else.

All I am saying is fasting is a bad practice. I have posted accredited people who study this for a living. Anon if you feel this is a good plan for you, then there is nothing stopping you. But, hopefully I have given you more complete and a more learned reason not to.

And I gather neither are you. It is still under debate that it is a bad practice. As I stated above, THIS PARTICULAR fast is very unlikely to cause any harmful side effects because of its gentle nature and short term.

Its still practiced around the world AND was recommended by MY nutritionist.

OP

this gives you an idea as to how your body works on a fast if youre interested

I provided medial support whist in the service. In addition of performing clinical and emergency medical duties I worked with doctors who supervised the daily meal requirements for military personnel.

http://www.webmd.com/diet/fasting
When you fast, your body is forced to dip into energy stores to get the fuel it needs to keep going, so you will lose weight. The big question is how long you will keep that weight off. Because food was often scarce for our ancestors, our bodies have been genetically programmed to combat the effects of fasting. When you eat less food, your metabolism slows down to conserve energy. Then, when you go back to your usual diet, your lowered metabolism may cause you to store more energy, meaning that you will probably gain back the weight you lost and possibly even put on more weight when eating the same calories you did before the fast.

There are literally hundreds of articles in which they say the same thing. The big concern whilst I was in was the Atkins diet. Twenty year olds were coming in for EKG tests because of heart palpitations.

OP. Like I said. Your choice. In fact, you should consult your doctor on how to devise a plan in which you can eat, feel and therefore look healthier. Cheers love.

Apple fast??

It may well be practised around the world, but so is self-mutilation with sharp objects on the basis that is is “cleansing”…

I think you would be very hard pushed to find any respected nutritionalist or doctor in Britain who would advocate limiting your food intake by such extremes. Personally, if it were me, I’d be looking for a new nutritionalist mz-casey.

Dieting should be a slow, balanced process. Fad diets are just that. Trendy fads. Unfortunately they can be downright dangerous.

Consult with your doctor OP. Establish exactly how much weight you NEED to lose. Then don’t just cut down junk food.. ELIMINATE it. Eat a calorie controlled balanced diet prioritising fresh fruit, vegetables and slow-release energy foods such as wholegrains, lentils and beans.

Please do your body a favour and look after it properly. Do not entertain the notion of following a new fad just because someone said it was harmless. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of there not being adequate data to PROVE the harm yet.

Just for the record..

On the site you have linked to mz-casey, the author states very clearly that he is not sure he understands fully what he is talking about! He is not a medical professional and simply likes cooking it seems. He fails to acknowledge any of the very real known dangers associated with fasting at all.

The American Dietetic Association (the world’s largest association of nutrition professionals), however, are very much experts in these things and are very adamantly against such diets.

The Dukan Diet!

Very popular in Europe, everyone at my work has been attempting it and have shown to be successful. It’s a diet that goes through 4 phases, given the first phase is a little crazy but it really gets your weight loss in motion. To summarize the plan, the first phase/week, you only eat protein, dairy, and a tbls and a half of oat bran. Through each phase, you incorporate another type of food, say vegetables, fruit, wholegrains, etc. At the end of the diet, you can each pretty much eat whatever you want, but in moderation.

I’ve lost nearly ten pounds so far trying this! Who knows if its healthy, but its for sure something different to try… and you don’t go hungry, you are allowed to eat as much of the ‘allowed’ foods of the phase you are in.

Anon, it is NOT safe.

Please be aware that any diet which restricts one or other food group dramatically (and in the case of the apple diet this is EXTREME restriction) puts you at severe risk of developing diabetes, or even of immediate and life-threatening collapse.

You should NEVER engage on any diet without first consulting your doctor to see if it is personally safe for you to do so.

Also, fellow users, be warned that if you tell an internet user to do something that is detrimental and harmful to their health, you may be in serious hot water if something horrible goes wrong.

As you are clearly British anon, I suggest you use a bit more common sense and talk to your GP. It doesn’t cost you a penny.
