Can’t get a job because I don’t have a car.
Can’t get a car because I don’t have a job.
Long story short, I’ve graduated unexpectedly from my program. I want to get a full time job until I return to a new college program in the fall, however most full time jobs in the area require that you have a valid license and your own vehicle. I have no qualms that I could find full time (or at the least 30 hours) work in the city, I’ve been doing it all through university with no problems finding a new job every year.
I’d like to work as a live-out nanny to get experience in my college field, and for obvious reasons I need to have a car to do that. I have a student loan at my disposal, some money saved up (but very little, as I have some small student debts) and money in my RESP.
The full time job I already KNOW I’ll have next summer (it’s seasonal) has moved from a short walk away to a new building across the city, a 50 minute bus ride away. Either way, I’m going to need/really, really want a car to get to that job.
What can I say to help convince my father to let me take some funds out of my RESP and pay down my student debt and get a new car? It’s pretty clear at this point my brother isn’t going to be using what’s left in it (failing out of 11th grade), and I really could use the money, but my father lost his job and my mother has very little income.
GAH SO FRUSTRATING. I’d really rather not use a student loan to basically finance a vehicle, because it just feels like a trap where I’ll never actually pay it all back.
