So on word pad what makes it erase what you have written before if you need to change something.
For example…
Ive written: I lke cats.
I realize i forgot the “I” in like so i go back and type it in and it does this: I lie cats and totally erases the letter after the one i just inserted.
Please help. Proof reading and editing isnt very helpful when i change something and it erases half the page!
:(

Basically, the Insert Key on the keyboard switches between two text input modes: Insert and Overtype.
In Overtype Mode, it replaces any characters at the cursor position.
In Insert Mode, it adds the characters you type at the cursor position, and moves everything in front forward.

No, it doesn’t work like that. At all.
Is there a reason for such a response? Let’s hear it then.
Maybe that way you could actually help the OP instead of whatever your response was.

I don’t believe the OP could honestly be so stupid. There is a mouse. And you can select text. If I put i instead of I, I can simply select it with my mouse, delete of backspace depending wether the curser is in front or behind the i and write in the correct text.
I don’t have to really even say this. User should know.

It’s not stupid at all, and everyone gets lost the first time they type in Overtype Mode in an application that uses it. You misunderstood the problem the OP is having.
If you’re on a Windows machine, enable Overtype and try the example OP gave in Wordpad, to the letter. (Wordpad, not Notepad, since Notepad doesn’t make use of Overtype). Just give it a try, you may learn something new that people don’t even know exists until they faced the problem OP is having. In that specific example, with Overtype mode, there is no way to correct the sentence unless you delete all the text after the misspell.

I don’t think so. Wordpad is not so different as that.

Did you bother to try it? Because I did.
blackbook668 wrote:
Yes. Works the same in editing text.
