It’s not very common, no.

Why should we give people we don’t know money?

Also, would you give money to everyone who asked? No, you wouldn’t.

people give money to strangers all the time, by donating to charities and so on. And when there are stories in the media about people needing money for medical treatment, or to help in the event of natural disasters, many people rally around. The last time I gave money to help a stranger was when I gave money to the fund to help the families of the Welsh miners that died after i mine flooded.

If you’re talking about people responding to random online appeals for money, then no, who in their right mind would respond to that - there’s a 99.9% chance it’s just a scam.

Ah. I just presumed the OP was talking about giving strangers money over the internet, I forgot about charities.

I lent almost $800 to someone in need (almost a stranger), they were going to get evicted. We had it in writing that they would pay me back but they never did, despite my appeals. So I have learnt a couple of things:

1. Dont lend money to people if you cant afford to lose it.
2. If someone has to borrow money, then they most likely cant afford to pay it back.

These days I only lend/give money to close friends and family, because I dont mind losing it to the people I love.

Em

I think that is probably what they mean, so I would say people aren’t heartless, just not stupid!

I should add that I work in the CBD, and I give money to the beggars and homeless all the time. Ecen though sometimes I know I am scammed, I know they need it more than me.

Also, I am happy to provide you with sone ‘advice’ if you like. I’m not an accountant but I know a bit about managing my money so I dont get into debt.

I don’t give money directly to strangers but I do donate to a few charities every quarter. Salvation army, Red Cross, DAV and the Moose Charities what they do with the money is up to them. Most of the time they don’t give money to individuals but to many in need which is why I chose those. In short its not that people are heartless its that we want to help more than just one. Hope this helps :-)

A man went into a restaurant and ordered a bowl of rice. After he had eaten the rice he told the waiter that he was starving and he had no money but was willing to work all night in payment for that bowl of rice. The restaurant owner was angered and took the customer who had not paid to the magistrates. The magistrate ruled that the man was definitely starving and in need and indeed an honest man because he only ordered a bowl of rice. ‘If he had ordered meat, and wine and other fancy foods such as desert he was not genuinely starving,’the judge said. ‘He offered you his services for the whole night in return for the bowl of rice, which is a cheap commodity. You refused it, therefore he owns you nothing.’

I’m glad you do Emmylou2u and it’s a true story in modern day Nigeria.

To those who may not understand the relevance, the man was offering in return for his ‘assistance’ more than his assistance was worth.

Yes it is possible to get assistance from a stranger. The judge, the stranger, was far from heartless.

Sadly, our world is greatly lacking in empathy. I see this every day.

Its not a guy but a nation wide (activist group or something similar),CCRC and the owners of which cannot be verified or found. No guarantee of monetary disbursement, and the amount is limited. You also have to follow their TOS, and provide your personal information for their company and associates for solicitations (advertising) and they keep all of your information for themselves which is their property when you request any donations form them. As I always said and will continue to say. Nothing is free and if you want it then you will work for it or you can sign your life away and get nothing in return. Hope this helps :-)

Well at least it someone or something that states it’s giving away money and there is probably a higher chance of gaining funding there than here. I suppose some people get help (few each month) and I believe there are still people who want to help but want to have some power of those who help. It’s terrible really. The poor are used the world over, the biggest abuser are of course the banks who exploit their poverty and make them pay interest rates excessively high and penalise them if they default on their repayments whilst the rich are given interest free or low credit. It’s not just working hard, it’s also having better banks who support working people. People are not down on their fianancial luck due to their laziness and if anybody states they are giving away money for free, those avenues should be considered. I personally wouldn’t attempt to gain money that way, but for those who are looking for financial support over the internet, it’s as good a source as any.
