advice help: My android phone is terribly slow. - Help.com

My android phone is terribly slow.

The longer its on the slower it gets. If I restart it its faster for a bit but soon slows down. Even while typing this I get several sentences ahead of it and have to wait for it to catch up. I did a spyware/ malware scan and came up clear. I also deleted cookies and cache.

Various apps freeze up for no apparent reason and need to force close too.

Any helpful advice?

Maybe it’s something with the internet connection? My phone, laptop, ipod, and all that are really fast when I’m at school, but when I go home they slow down immensely and they have the same typing problems.

That could be a possibility. I live in an area of rather limited coverage.

no iphones have way more glitches. you might need a software update, you might want to go ask your provider.

Not to mention, people with iphones are almost always douches.

Check your apps. Those with lots of movements eat up battery life and slows down the phone.

Hmm, I’m a BlackBerry user, never used Android yet.

But I remember my Nokia used to freeze up a lot if I crammed the memory too full. Also, if you’ve got too many apps running in the background, that can slow it down too.
If it’s a relatively new phone, you should probably take it to the service centre. It shouldn’t be behaving like that.

That’s what I was thinking; programs running in the background. There should be a way to find out what they might be. Or just start uninstalling apps you don’t frequently use to see if that helps improve speed.

1 possibilities has been mentioned - if you have a pile of apps running (even silently) they eat a hell of lot of your phones processing speed - so the longer its on the more they demand slwoing everything down

the other possibility that hasn’t been mentioned is how much free space you have on the phone - once you cross past the 15% free a slowdown normally occurs and as you approach no free space more and more problems will occur

but bear in mind i deal with computers - not phones so my info might be a little wrong - but in theory they work on the same principles!

Thanks for all the ideas. I appreciate your interest.

I’ve only added three or four apps besides what came on the phone.

I’m not overly techy so I don’t want to try too much and wreck something. The place I bought it from is about 4 hrs from here. The same service provider covers there as well as here but the local store doesn’t carry smart phones. (Yeah, I live in the boonies.) Lol

Sorry, I don’t know much about this. High-tech. phones aren’t my thing.
Though with computers that could indicate it’s overheating, some programs are booting up over time and eventually take a lot of time. The apps freezing seems to be running out of processor speed (unless the apps need internet connection, in which case that might be it?). So it’d either be an overheating issue or too much usage of some kind, perhaps?
/shrug/ Best guess. On computers it’s easier. You can bring up a list of programs running and CPU and RAM usage.
