Im not an expert at all, but what Ive learned during my short life on this earth, is to not over-think everything. Actually, half the crap out there, doesnt even matter, until we make it into a big deal. I dont know about the rest of it, but for that little part of it, just take it easy, dont stress out and smile more often. Youll be surprised what that can do!

Great reply, that takes care of half the question…. Once you can learn to tell what matters or not.
So, next question is…

You can dodge but just as the universe is constantly expanding crap has a circular orbit and can hit from the back.
think about it, if people didnt go through all that “crap” then they would fail thus never learning from their failures. and if there were no downs and only ups, then life would be pretty boring.
I learned a long time ago that life is a crap sandwich. The more bread you have, the less crap you have to eat. Bread was synonymous with money back then too…

The double dodge?
Or just need to check after you flush…
@Fallout
Learning from it then?
True, life with no crap would be dull, life with to much, and the same over and over… Well its more dull

You know, that might be the truest answer.
I have more money now, no-one who thinks its theirs, and I only have to eat a little crap to get it.
Bouncing back and avoiding rebound. The double dodge if you are a real champ.
Sleep well, exercise, keep notes, always encourage your victories however small.
That is what works for me.
But you know what, it may not work for anyone else.
Also: you can’t avoid the crap, you just have to learn to fight through it.
It’s not so much as recognizing the crap more than identifying whose crap in the pile belongs to who.
“Excuse me. . .this is yours.”

Nice. And that everyone is different - dang, makes OT harder to learn from your mistakes Snar :-)

How to become an expert crap dodger? How to recognise the crap?

Now let´s see if we can shed some new light on this and leave crap for crap and not worry about the fan that distributes it for a while.
Expert crap dogder?
I believe that you should rather take in all the crap and transform it. Everything is valuable and crap can be too. It´s used for a lot of purposes already and if you bring some creativity into the mic i´m sure that it would be better to build an empire from transformed crap, than it is to dodge it all and stay alert 24/7. Sooner or later it will hit you in the face. Better be prepared.
How to recognize the crap?
If you learn to deal with things then it won´t be crap any more. To deal with any issue is a base of understanding. The understanding you have of the totality in your existence is directly linked to the information you possess. To grow you need more. To change you need more. Change of habits and new information will be a guide to help you get around the fact of today. What you conceive as crap being thrown at you today, might just be the thing you need for a motivational boost in some direction tomorrow.
How to get the good stuff so you don’t have make do with the smelly stuff?
This is answered in the previous two. Though there could be some more clarification on the subject. The good stuff also stems from perspective. Directly linked in between perception and the stored information, you will have the view of today. What is good today might be bad tomorrow. It could also turn out to be awesome next week. Any thing is in relation to who you are. Or more exactly, who you choose to be.

but yes, some crap hits you so hard you carry scars for life. Not just scars, but limps, pain and reduced mobility.

sorry to hear that :-(
but yeah, music and sleep takes the pain away…
Life can pretty crappy sometimes, the thing is it is that way for all of us, and no matter how bad it gets, there are always people that are worse off than you. Try not to think about it too much, get a hobby, something you’ve always wanted to do, and have fun with it, instead of staying at home, watching television…worked for me

Sounds like something I wrote once…
So, your questions are:
1. How does one become an expert crap dodger?
2. How is one to recognise the crap?
3. How to get the good stuff so you don’t have make do with the smelly stuff?
And while those are fine questions, they are not the right ones to be asking right now. Because there are a couple of questions that are more important that must be asked first.
1. Are you fully devoted to changing your life? Because it is difficult, and it takes a lot of discipline and time.
2. Are you willing to put your pride in check, and recognize that the way you live life is not working?
3. Are you willing to put some faith in God?
Knowing how to get out of all the crap you’re in, and knowing how to avoid the crap that comes your way, will be of no avail if you do not have the discipline, faith, and humility required to do something with that knowledge.
To give an example, let’s say you have an overweight person who hates exercise. You can tell them over and over again that the way to lose weight is to exercise, but if they don’t have any discipline to do something with that knowledge, then it’s worthless. It’s also worthless if they are so prideful that they think, “Being overweight isn’t a bad thing. I’m glad that I’m fat, because it’s made me who I am, and I like who I am.” And while those things are true to an extent, it’s just pride trying to rationalize a bad situation.
And even if they KNOW that exercise is required for healthy weight loss, if they aren’t devoted to changing and willing to let go of their current lifestyle, then knowing how to change does nothing. They have to want to change. They have to want something bigger and more important than mindless pleasure-seeking. Because that kind of desire, thinking, and behavior is what brings crap to people’s lives in the first place. Which brings us to question number one, how does one become an expert crap dodger? By turning off the giant crap-magnet that is attracting the crap in the first place.
The reason I mentioned faith in God, is because that directly relates to your second question: How to recognize the crap? If you don’t have some kind of absolute standard of justice by which crap can be judged, then you will always have somebody arguing that crap is actually chocolate pie, and that the stench is just your imagination that society has brainwashed you into smelling. I know that seems silly, but the world has very good illusions. It can shape crap into something that looks exactly like chocolate cake, and it can even TASTE like cake at first. And if you’ve never actually had real chocolate before, you might even believe them that it’s good and wonderful. But once you have the wisdom of God, and of thousands of years of people devoted to living crap-free lives, and you put faith in that wisdom, you too can begin to identify the crap.
Which brings us to the third and final question, how to replace the crap with good things. And the answer to this one is actually the simplest of all. “It happens naturally.” When you start choosing things like God’s love over personal issues, the natural reaction is that good things happen. You might still get some bad stuff show up from time to time, but it goes away quicker, and affects you less each time. That huge space in your life that was once filled with crap will finally be empty. And since nature hates a vacuum, it will fill that crap-free zone with something else. And that “something else” is very pleasing, and good, and right.
Hi again, Chunky,
Without knowing what sort of crap you’re encountering/stepping in, it’s difficult to suggest a course of action.
Chunk, you have to man up and realize that the following old axiom is closer to the absolute truth: Life Isn’t Fair.
Then, you have to understand that with age comes wisdom (usually), so ideally as one experiences crap they -
a) develop an ability to proactively avoid some of it by avoiding paths where they’re most likely to step in it - wrong types of acquaintances, all politicians because they lie, too good to be true offers and sales pitches, etc.;
b) one’s reaction time (and skepticism) increases so one can often hop over a steaming pile of it at the last minute; or
3) one learns how to scrape it off the heel and move on.
Pragmatic way of dealing with crap - Hope for the best, expect the worst and take what comes.
FWIW, the proselytizer above fails to say that mythical deities don’t really offer genuine “help” in dodging and dealing with crap, but take advantage of the gullible and naive who don’t know that religion is just crap of a different color. I laugh out loud (or at least chortle) when I hear or read a religionist suggest that ANYTHING in religious dogma is an “absolute standard of justice” when religion is based on tall tales, deception, self-delusion and blind, uninformed/unsubstantiated belief. TRUST IN YOURSELF, not mythical beings. If you buy into their snakeoil, you’re setting yourself up to step in more crap.
