If this site were said to be in the process of shutting down what would you do?
To all users on here, some who has left and went and some came back others banned.
Seriously to those whose issues has been resolved and barely if ever have the time to be on here?
If a couple of bucks were needed to keep help running would some provide it?
I know the mods are volunteers, and bla bla but theoretically speaking “if” would you guys let it fall or have a thought of back up

I’ve already donated my money to a user, and if I had to, I’d prolly donate to help keep the site up from time to time.
I think all long term users would need to huddle together and determine the next site we would take over.
No, I would not pay a membership fee to use help.com (if that’s the question.) If help.com were to be terminated for some reason, while I would be sorely disappointed, I would see it as an opportunity to get out of the house and get a real life.

I’m too broke, I can barely fund my college education. Wait! I can’t! That’s why I rely on student loans and grants.
if help.com went down, i would just go nuts and blow up a building. with the lemons!
I have the email address of a few good people here, and there would also be key words to look for.
A new forum would start, but without the constant influx of newbies with drama to intrigue me, I’d move on in time.
Best thing about this site really is how google rates it. It attracts the needy like a flame attracts… Pyro’s
being completely honest, if i saw this site was going to shut down id probably cry. lol. i dont have a life. and this shutting down would only further me to spending every other ounce on my life on facebook which is addicting enough as is :P if i had money id be more than happy to donate to keep this site running because i do love it. but alas, im broke. i dont have crap. so unless my dad wants to be a doll and donate all his money to a site he doesnt even go on, im pretty much screwed in that area :(( But either way, id totally go with big als idea. no way i could part with my help family

This site is supported by paid advertising. At least I would hope they are sending in checks. I don’t think from the Admin on down that there is a single person that is a paid employee of Help.com. I think daniel is paid by CNET as a senior manager of xyz, but his salary is not based on the financial health of Help.com itself.
Let me ask everyone here, have any of you here clicked on any of the ads that appear on every post? Anyone? I know I personally have not. And I wonder if anybody else ignores them like I do. It would probably be difficult to recruit more advertising if no one is making any money by advertising here. When Help started, and I’m one of the few that remembers, we didn’t have any ads. Or Help-bot for that matter. Speaking of Wall-e, I wonder if there are any stats on the effectiveness of it since it only offers phone numbers to call not a web link to click to?
If this site was to shut down I would first contact the current advertisers to see if they would be willing to voluntarily pay more to keep this site up and running. But based on my previous history of simply ignoring them, my guess would be they probably would not pay more.
So then, with the revenue stream remaining at its current level and (guessing) the cost of keeping this site running continuously rising it would seem a losing proposition to put more money into it.
In this scenario and I were in a position of power such as daniel, I would attempt to ask CBS to release the domain name and change it from Help.com to Help.org and make it a not-for-profit company. I then would ask the Bill Gates, Donald Trumps, etc of this country to donate to keep it running for years to come. And to their donations yes I would gladly and wisely donate my own.
Sorry for such a long answer ~Empress~.
I would probably dismiss it as another one of these end-of-the-world theories, myes.
there are a lot of variables to your question that I would need answers to. if it were me I would start collecting email addresses of the friends Ive made on here in case the shut down were permanent in nature so we could still keep in touch.
as for donations. I’m not exactly daddy warbucks but I would consider a contribution depending on how much was needed to keep it floating, and how much I had available. I do like the idea of help.org though because then in theory a donation could be considered tax deductable.
I would go insane. Okay I’m bluffing. I’m already insane so where else is there to go? Actually this is not my first addiction (surprise, surprise, surprise)… this is the third website I have had my mail delivered to. I’ve spent two or three hours a day on the world wide web for about eight years, the last three of them here.
I would make sure Al was not Alone I guess, or take over another site with equal veracity. I have a life. I work, I have at least a dozen people I can trust and call real friends, my wife has an extended family that I interact with on a constant basis and we have five children and five grandchildren. My life is actually on constant overload. I travel, I eat dinner with my family every night, I watch a lot of sports and read the newspaper every day and subscribe to two magazines. Daft, your life right now is all about trying to get healthy enough to have a life.
This place is like a home and I would really miss the interaction with a lot of the users here. I could only contact about ten people from here if the site was gone tomorrow. But what really do we have in common except this site?
Hmmm… should this site close down, I’d probably just move on and end up on the internet less, I’m a rather adaptive individual and should this give warning to shut down, I’d probably exchange some contact info with some of the people on here and then just wait for the end. Knowing that it was fun while it had lasted.

Heh, ‘Life’s full of Comings, Goings, and Reunions’, Princess.
I know that, but you know i love to keep things and people i care for close to me. I get attached and tangle myself one too many times. And have life time bonds with many.
Although the bonds grow different im a constant where friends are concerned. I hate the goings LOL

Women can never get enough Big Willy!, an insatiable craving, and this can be hard for them to handle. More addictive than crack cocaine and it gets kinda nerve wracking dealing with their strident demands. Maybe less Jell-O?
