How do I change my political affiliation?

I’m not telling you my current political stance, :) but I will tell you that I want to change parties. I remember when I first registered to vote, I had to specify my party affiliation then. How do I re-specify this affiliation now?

Reregister at any of the ironing board “Get Registered Here” stations you find at any muni stop during elections time. The new affiliations simply overrule the old one.

I asked one time while getting registered cause I couldn’t remember if I had registered before. :D

I also need some guidance. I would like to change my party affiliation from Democrat to Independent. Any way to do this prior to election time?

If you’re in the United States, chances are your state has a “Board of Elections” or something similar. I just used the term “Board of Elections” since that is what my state, New York calls it. Find the website, and it will likely tell you how to register. The New York Board of Elections Website allows you to download and print a pdf of the appropriate registration form. Your states Department or Bureau of Motor Vehicles may also have voter registration forms available. In any case, you obtain the form, fill it out, and turn it in. Most often this is down by mail, but in New York, you can hand it in person to your local Board of Elections. There will probably be an option to either register as an Independent to to choose not to enroll in a party depending on the state, choose the appropriate one.

Things to remember: Certains states require you to register to vote a minimum amount of days before you can vote in an election and some states have closed primaries, meaning that if you register as an independent and your state has closed primaries, you won’t be able to vote in primary elections.

Even if you missed the deadline to re-register you can asked for supplementary democratic, republican, or what ever major parties are having primaries or any sort of elections and basicly your ballot would be consider a challenge ballot, but would be used if the election is pretty close. Like the guy fron New York Said just fill out an new registration form and you are done. I’m not even from the united states and i know their procedure. hahah. Good Luck.
