“eCITATION is a wireless mobile application that automates the citation process, producing the North Carolina (NC) Uniform Citation in an electronic format that is transmitted almost instantaneously from the patrol car to the courts. The system was designed to replace the manual paper process of issuing citations. It reduces citation data entry to a single iteration (from a mobile data computer in a law enforcement officer’s patrol car) and transmits that data directly to the NC Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). With existing wireless connections, eCITATION allows officers to create citations and schedule court dates electronically using the mobile data computer in the patrol car. A portable printer produces a copy of the citation for the defendant. After entry, the citation data is transmitted to the AOC and can be accessed by court users statewide.”

So . . . the judge can just reach into his pouch and pull out the terminal and see when the guy will show up in court?
