You can use a paint can if you wanted to as long as it had been properly cleaned. So to answer your question, sure why not…?

you can re-use/recycle anything as a container for anything else. of course sometimes it’s not recommended(as in water plastic bottles as they grow bacteria. so i heard).

Yeah you really need a coffee cup or Styrofoam for hot coffee. Even those red solo cups get very hot if you try to fill them with coffee.
