song help: I recently started a Christian band not to long ago, and although - Help.com

I recently started a Christian band not to long ago, and although I’m not a good writer I’ve written 3 song that the other guys in my band like.

but for a while now I’ve been able to write two or four lines or a catchy chorus but I’m having a real problem piecing all the parts together, especially verses. I could defiantly use some inspiration.

Not to sound snarky, and I apoligize if I do, but wouldn’t Jesus be your greatest inspiration? Look into how your belief has effected how you operate, or how you view the world.

Many many songwriters do not come up with complete songs in 60 seconds. Many take years and years to fully develop. The more you practice the easier it will be but just keep a journal of all these bits and pieces. Not to worry. It will come eventually.

Christian music is not an easy genre to break into so I admire your courage. Stay true to your faith. God has plans for you.

Try praying about it. When I feel stuck that often helps me.

Getting honest in songs tends to help. Keeping notes about your lows and highs of spiritual growth will give you good material, if you can get really honest. I have noticed that in secular music, it is those that truly reveal themselves as well as the subject they are singing about that tend to be the greater songs.

I have noticed that there are a few secular songs that would make great worship songs if you just changed a few of the lyrics. They are all relationship songs (man to woman, woman to man) and talk of utter dependence and utter brokenness, for example I think rolling in the deep, with just a few lyric changes would have made an amazing spiritual song, imagine walking into church and the band were playing something that classy rather than some of the drivel I hear. (not knocking all spiritual music here, some of it has reduced me to tears on occasions, some of it really makes me squirm though) I always thought that some subtlety would be good on some level

I have heard a lot of efforts though to make rock into worship music, rap into worship music etc… at least people are trying to break into new genres and reach/connect with different parts of society. Good luck brother.

I also had a Christian band for some time. Unfortunately our members were too far away to continue but I did most of the lyrics and continue to compose now. A good way to find inspiration is to get in Gods presence. Just worship Him. Words will come to you. If music is your calling, you won’t be able to help to want to sing or okay music for God. He will inspire you. A song I love and I know it’s pretty old but is by flyleaf, all around me. The entire song is about being in the presence of God and worship. Has tons of biblical references and was covered by David Crowder band. Great song. Anyway, hope that helps.
