What is a “Best Friend”?

I recently found out that I am someone’s best friend and I got to thinking, well that’s great and all, but what does it really mean?

I was wondering what you guys thought. What is a best friend?

A best friend to me is someone that … no matter how long it’s been since you’ve last seen each other … when you meet again it’s like you just saw each other yesterday. You talk about everything … and you know the little things about each other. The things that aren’t important but … it’s what makes that person tick.

That’s what I think a best friend is but that might be a little to much … I know some people just call everyone their best friend.

I have a work mate that calls me her “bestie” lately when she sees me… and I wondered what that really was so with all the latest lingo and all, I asked my 12 year old son and he eagerly told me that I am her best friend. I was astounded as I didn’t know.

Anyway, i guess this sums it up for me ……

“Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Don’t want in front of me, I may not follow … Just walk beside me and be my friend.”

I don’t really believe in the term “best friends” though it is kind o cute, but I do believe in being a mate to someone you respect and cherish but I never want to rely on one person completely other than myself - nice to have others around, but no.1 to count on, is yourself. X

A best friend is the person you can go to with all your problems and they will understand and support you. Someone who will be there no matter what, gets you jokes, someone you can be mad at but still feel the urge to talk to them. The person who will be next to you in your happiness and sadness etc etc

literally, the best of their friends. you’re more friend-ish than his other friends. sometimes it means a deep connection, sometimes not.
