I am in a delimma, and I do not know what to do with it.

It is along story of preparing for studying abroad. I am a chinese who used to work as an english teacher. When i graduated from uni two years ago, I wanted to work in a teach IETLS , an english test and to save money and study in AUS after three years.
However, my teacher suggested me to go to US and he said that he was capable of helping me applying for the fellowship.I signed a contract with him and paid him about 9,000 US $. I even quit my job to prepare for the GRE test.I have not worked for one year. Now the universities in US do not offer me the fellowship. I was cheated by the teacher.
The money I paid to him was borrowed from my mum.She is very angry about that. But at the same time she encouraged me to continue my dream of going to AUS.
Then I began to prepare for the english test last week, but these days, i found my mum’s attitude changed.
She said the tuition fee was too expensive in AUS but at the same time she encouraged me to go there.
In fact, my family is able to pay for the tuition fee and my parents quality of life will not be affected.
But her words really influenced my feeling. I feel very guilty.I used their money to study, and that is indeed a great amount of money. So I want to give up.
on the other hand, i have a very good opportunity to go to AUS , If I give up, my mum also will feel regret she said before that if I chose to work, i can not go abroad to study in the future.I do not want to give up here..
What should I do ?
Now, what i have in mind is that, I can tell my mum a lie, saying that the uni in AUS has given me the fellowship. But in fact, i will move to another city ,and find a new job.
Do you think, that is a good solution?
Hope some one can give me suggestions.
I feel so depressed these days.
Thanks
Lynn

If you signed a contract with your teacher, and he cheated you, seek legal advice to get re-compensation.

I’d say do not give up your dream, you can always pay your parents back later. Don’t lie, tell the complete truth, even if it rips your heart out to do so.

Talk to your mother, tell her what you are thinking, try not to get too emotional, keep it calm, don’t blame. Communication will let the things off your chest and it will help you sort out the right thing to do.

Hope this helps

I has already asked him to compensate and he has promised me to give me the money back by the end of this month.

I will find a time to communicate with her.Thank you so much .
But my mum was that type of person who will not tell her true feelings.
Even though she feels like the money means a lot to her, she will not say. She will support me, but will feel very reluctant to pay for the tuition.

I think its clear that you should go to AUS!!
The thing that might be eating you up must be your guilt that you got cheated & want to make up somehow. If you want to boost up your esteem, go & get your $9000, then you give it back to your mom or blow it off its upto you.
