relationship help: My brother’s fiancée hates me and my family and succeeded in having my brother cutting us all off including changing his cell phone numbers. - Help.com

My brother’s fiancée hates me and my family and succeeded in having my brother cutting us all off including changing his cell phone numbers.

On her last visit to our home, she completely ignored me and made sure that my brother had no contact with me. She has trust issues and feels no one can be trusted and wants to have a Romeo and Juliet type relationship. I’m not a psychologist but the both of them probably are love addicts. They fight and make up constantly and are attached at the hip only leaving each other when he has to go to work and her to go to school. My family and I never liked her but have always tried to be supportive despite her manipulating and controlling attitude with my brother as well as her gold digging tendencies. We have all voiced our concerns to him about her but all he does is scream and shout nonsense. He has completely lost his mind and is extremely weak doing whatever she tells him to do. My parents are heartbroken feeling guilty for saying something. Ive been outspoken from the beginning but did not expect this result. In a strange way, I’m kinda relieved that I don’t have to deal with his drama anymore but at the same time I feel betrayed. What do we do?

well, no one likes to hear negative things about their loved ones, not to mention from other loved ones and he obviously loves his gf so…if you guys shared your ideas without being asked, then of course he’s going to defend her. if you must say something it’s one thing to say it once and let it be ‘known’ that’s how you feel, and another to keep poking them with it. idk if you guys keep bringing it up, but yea… he probably feels betrayed too. in the end no one can tell him what to do. he’s an adult and is entitled to his own decisions no matter how lacking/crazy/stupid they may seem to you. accepting other’s weaknesses is part of being sportive. i guess you could try to apologize for trying to run his life or trying to tell him what to do and telling him you accept any decisions he may make(perhaps not agree, but accept) and you’ll be there when he needs you. that’s all i have for now! XD

She has him “whipped.” Not much you can do right now. But at least you know what does NOT work. As Monkichirmo wrote, nobody likes having his or her loved one bashed–even if the information is correct. You have to approach such matters very delicately.

Eventually, he will have to decide if this girl is right for him–or not. But right now he is completely in her thrall, and she has cut all of you off to make sure you don’t take him away from her!

Read the book “Difficult conversations”.

Stop being so self-centred Your brother obviously really needs SOMETHING and he’s getting it from this woman however you may feel about the longterm goodness or badness of it.
