Ex comes back after 6yrs.

We dated in hs for almost a yr and he and I had a mutual break up. We were both going to different schools and such. We had maybe 5 phone conversation in 5 yrs, very seldom. They lasted for hours and was a catch up thing. I found he was getting married and was super excited for him! Later on he contacted me for support because she left. Of course I was a friend to him. Then we didn’t talk for a long while. Idr how we got back in contact. I think he saw me somewhere so called. We got together with a few friends and he was acting tense and just kinda funny. Didn’t talk for about a month and I got engaged. He started trying to call me often but I didn’t answer cuz I wasn’t sure how my fiance would feel about it. Asked him and he was ok as long as it was strictly friend conversation. So I calked back and he flat out said he had thought about me ever since we broke up 6 YEARS AGO and wanted to try again. Of course I said no because I was engaged but I just don’t get why he would’ve waited soooo long to tell me that. It was driving me crazy for the longest time because if he would’ve said something earlier, maybe we would have been together. I just don’t get it.
