How could I work for a record company?

What classes should I take, and what schools have courses for them? I don’t make music, I just want to work for a hip hop record company.

I know one person who works at a record company. His grandfather was a member of the Grand Ole Opry and when he got out of high school Sony gave him a job. No college. He had a $75,000 a year expense account and his job was basically to take country music stars and songwriters to lunch when they were in town. Tough work if you can get it.

I have been in a lot of recording studios and record companies and I have never met anyone in any of these places who could not play an instrument. If you want music to be your life you should be completely involved with it.

You can’t even get a job at the Gibson guitar factory in Nashville without doing a musical audition. They want you to be able to play a guitar before they let you make one. I had a roommate who worked there an he brought home loaner guitars all the time that we used to wear out. It is a way of life, not a job. Expect the same from record companies.
