adult taking correspondance course. How do you figure this out? Is it +2x?

Yes, that is what it would be. And as stated above, it would be 6x. A little trick that I learned in school is that when you see a -(- together like that, connect the minus and negative sign to make it sort of look like a +. That always helped me until I managed to beat that rule into my head. Haha. :)
