lost help: I feel like I am a horrible dog owner.. - Help.com

I feel like I am a horrible dog owner..

I have two dogs a chawawa and a jack Russel mixed. They love going on walks and I decided to drive out of town to this place with lots of trails for them and for me. I love walking to. I got lost big time. I started to really freak out then it got dark and when I mean dark I mean pitch black. You can imagine how freaked I was then. I had one of those app things on my phone that’s a flashlight that thing is awesome, but I still couldn’t see the trail that well. Some how I got off the trail with out me knowing it. I was in tears by now. I know I am such a cry baby, but all I could think of is bears, coyotes, me having to stay the night in the middle of the woods. Finally I saw some light.. So I walked to it as fast as I could. There was a house I immediatally went up and knocked on the door. There was dogs everywhere, and I swear my two dogs, bandit and Tutu was still next to me. This lady opened the door and offered to drive me back to my car. I was so relieved. I got tutu and put him in the car but I couldn’t find bandit. I swear me and that sweet lady yelled for him for 2o minutes. Finally we thought that I could leave and come back in the morning I would give her my number and she would give me mine and call me if she found him. I just can’t believe I left my dog out there in the wilderness to fend for itself. He has never even slept out side. I don’t even think he’s went a day without sleeping in the bed with me. We live in town. Most of the time we just go to the park. I feel so stupid for getting lost and leaving him there. I want so much to find him tomorrow, but I don’t think I will. I am exhausted. I can’t stop crying, and I am so worried about bandit. It’s killing me. I don’t even think I can sleep tonight.

You need to relax and think straight. The last time you saw him was in front of the ladies home. Its likely that if hes afraid, he would just stay around the light and warmth of the home and the lady will be giving you a call in the morning. This is no good in thinking you wont find him. You’re just making it LESS likely putting that out there.

If you cant sleep, just continue to saying “I will find him” of “The lady is gonna find him” and its a heck of a lot more likely to happen. Just keep thinking positive and when you get him back, make him a sandwich and he’ll forgive you.

There was dogs everywhere,

Uh-huh…and most likely at least one little girl dog that he just couldn’t resist. Just go back in the morning, and pry them apart. A bucket of water works sometimes.

It was in the middle of no where. Just to get to the main rode from her house you had to drive probably two miles.

Sorry to be so negative. This is just bothering me so much. All I can think of is how lonely he is..

Positive: It’s warm out. Tomorrow we can go look for him. It will be light outside so it will be easier to see. The lady seemed really nice and said she would call. At least I got out of the woods and he is near a home. Everything is going to work out just fine. It will..

Lesson learned: If you are going on a trail go early in the morning not at 4:00 PM like I did. Keep the dog on a leach even if it’s in the middle of no where. Get dog tags that says the name and address. No better yet get one of those tracking devises to put in the dogs.. That might be too expensive

It’s strange everything doesn’t really feel real. It’s like I dreamed it all up and bandit it going to hop onto my lap….
