I just need some technical help.

I’m the editor for my church but for some reason when I burn the service to disk, it skips at times. I have unplugged interenet from my computer(so everything closes down) to minimize what it was doing and it still happens. does this mean i just need a better burning program or what?

That problem can be caused by a few different things.

- Did you try recording the CD with lower speed? The lower the speed the less error prone the disk will be, and it helps with some picky players.

- Did you by any chance changed the brand of the blank CDs? Again, some audio players are very picky and don’t like certain brands.

- Did you try recording the service in another recorder? Recorders don’t last forever and sometimes their laser gets weaker and/or misaligned caused problems with certain audio players. Computers are a lot more tolerant than standalone players.

- Did you try the CD’s in another audio player? The one you are using to play the CDs may be getting a little tired (laser getting weaker and/or misaligned).

Try one of those points at the time in order to troubleshoot the problem. Hopefully one of them will hint you on where the problem relies. Good luck!

I just tried that and the problem wasn’t as bad but it still skipped a little at some parts.

I don’t think its that because theres another editor that takes the same data and makes his own version. I haven’t herd any of his skipping like mine. I was thinking maybe its just my burning program, but i’m not sure.

In your case the origin of the data is unimportant, because if it were corrupt in the source, it would skip in the computer itself; since it doesn’t the data in the computer is okay.

To make things simpler the possible causes are: software, the blank cd’s, the recorder or the final player. Since you mentioned there is another person making the services too and using the same player, it should also be safe to assume the player is also not the problem, with leaves us with either the software, blank media, or your recorder.

Although it may be possible to be a software problem, it is a lot more problem that the problem relies in the blank media or the recorder. To further troubleshoot and pinpoint the problem:

- To check if it is the blank media, try another brand of blank CD (or simply ask the other person for one of his blank CDs) and try burning the service in it. If it doesn’t skip, you need to change the brand of blank CD’s. As mentioned earlier, some players are picky, and some brands not so good.

- To see if the recorder is at fault, try recording the service in another CD recorder. The one you are using may have lost is power, be misaligned, or be faulty. If you try that and it doesn’t skip, you need a new recorder.

- To see if the software is at fault, which although unlikely it is always possible, simply try another one. There are trial versions. If changing the software and maintaining the same blank Media and recorder solves the problem, you know it has to be the software.

There’s only the software or the CD burner itself to troubleshoot then.

Unfortunately I’m not too knowledgeable about CD burner software, but you can always ask the other person which one he uses. Personally I’ve been used Nero (on Windows) for the last years without any problem. I’ve had the DVD drive replaced two times on the laptop I’m currently using though. My old one had died also.

Hope it helps.
